Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

This year with the temperature swings has caused the most rail breaks in one season apparently. The plan is to fix the west half up to Raymond excluding DT MPLS over the last weekend in May and the East half into STP in Mid July.

Rail shut downs are coordinated half a year or more in advance ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Hey why has the Green Line been such a disaster through the U campus lately. Slow running, missed signal priority windows. Very strange. Seems to start at West Bank station - every train entering from downtown has been crawling as it approaches the station.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Fully glad to see a route like this exist, but boy if I was taking this to the airport and had to sit through the massive detour to MOA, I would be so frustrated. MOA transit center feels like one of the big missed opportunities in this region - if it was on the north side of the mall I think almost ...

Re: Metro Transit Network Now Plan

In 2017 I expected our transit system would look way different in 2027, and in a good way. What's being shown in the Network Now plan doesn't exactly give me optimism. Some parts are good, some parts not so good, some parts I think won't last a year, and a few parts I think to myself "wasn't there ...

Wow. Southwest is gonna cook through the burbs, before coming to a screeching halt in downtown.
Time for a downtown tunnel!

At ~12:40 I see a little stub track, near where the Hopkins OMF was supposed to be. Anybody know what that's for?
Neither here nor there, but I can't believe this is a 30+ minute video.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

I think if the contractor screwed up, it is newsworthy, even if they'll fix it at no cost. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that point. I suspect that such a fix wouldn't impact the overall construction schedule given how long the tunnel still has to go, but it is reasonable to be ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

Absolutely wild to me that the discussion here right now is about the appropriateness of measuring the distance? If you watch the video, you can see that the road where this was measured is open to traffic, and there's a sidewalk across the tracks as well. No one was where they don't belong.

Also ...

Re: Electric Scooters

I think Bird dropped out of St. Paul because they probably considered this area one big market and (frankly, understandably) thought it would be nonsensical to limit access to one of the two cities here (and let's be real, the less lucrative city probably).

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 40 stories / 442'

Maybe I'm naive but do we really need more tracks for Chicago HSR? Is it a capacity issue?

I have to say if the train needs to be non-high speed in the city, I'm fine with that if it means we need to spend less public dollars re-establishing a consistent passenger rail link between here and Chicago.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

This 46th street bike way is overall pretty great to see! Disappointing that the bridge over Godfrey is going to be a bit of a choke point, but I guess if they want to keep it 4 lanes there just isn't room for more.

Overall an improvement, I hope to see this extended westward along 46th some day.

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

I have long thought that for events at Midway, they should construct another platform for the Westbound trains. There looks to be enough space between the existing crosswalk at Simpson St and the left turn lane for Snelling. (Edit: I'm looking at the platform lengths on google maps and you might ...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Development Site

I thought the point of this ramp was that they would actually build *on top* of the ramp itself, and not just on the skinny lot next to it? Does anyone else remember this or am I making up memories?

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Development & RR Corridor/MinHi Line

I would agree with amiler92 that I would hope they would go bigger and bolder rather than more timid with the design. Under 2040 isn't this parcel supposed to be due for pretty big upzoning given it's location near a train station?

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

Ortega and McDonough may sincerely believe that the best path forward is to force people to use Union Depot, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily the right path forward for the Gold Line and for the region.

Re: 38th Street Corridor & 38th St Station Development

I have heard from a resident in the Phase 1 building that it's not very full. They have these big units that are two stories that face 28th Ave with their own entrances, which seem nice, but the second story is actually underground. Kind of a weird setup that doesn't allow for a lot of natural light ...
