Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Based on preliminary info, they believe the effected train came off tracks after hitting a rail utility box lid that was not properly secured.

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
Was there ever an exact routing in mind when the McAndrews LRT was being looked at? I know it was supposed to serve the Minnesota Zoo, but since thats off the main corridor that would be pretty difficult. "The McAndrews Corridor was a future transit corridor in southern suburbs of the Twin Cit...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
I have always felt this project wouldn't have been a failure if they would have just spent the money to extend the Blue Line!

The feds are requiring a new environmental study for the crash wall. I am so tired of the hurdles this project has had to go through......

Re: Labeling the Transit System
I think I disagree labeling the Greenway "streetcar" as such given its stop spacing and dedicated ROW. More importantly, I'm wondering how the Met Council's studied Highway Transitways will be labeled in our system. They seem to be very similar to the Orange and Red Lines (station locatio...

Based on some good suggestions, here's my desired transit map! https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Kr4mo1YbEZQUBGPBFXGs4WNWrKdbTvI2&usp=sharing ^ Based on routes in some phase of planning: https://metrocouncil.org/Council-Meetings/Committees/Transportation-Committee/2017/July-10,-2017/Info-5-_-AB...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
It is taxi free! The only vehicles allowed are bicycles, buses, and Metro Mobility vehicles.Anyone know if the new mall is taxi-fee? I know that idea had been floated at one point.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Some of them will, they will all be complete by Dec 31st. Until they are complete they will have standard bus stop signs. All the barricades have been removed now, except the ones around the bus shelter sites. I'm not really convinced that those are going to be complete by December 2nd.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
I was at the meetings too and voiced my support through the comment sheets and talking to the mayor and transit planner face to face. I'm nervous enough speaking in crowds, so a hostile one I avoid if possible. I'm a professor and deal with public speaking on a pretty regular basis so it's no big d...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
If buses can be rerouted and the travel time is less or the same as Nicollet Mall then I fully support a pedestrian-only Nicollet Mall (as long as people can still bike through there). Considering buses go 15 miles per hour maximum on that stretch it probably wouldn't be too difficult. The new spee...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
I've already set off my Facebook rant, but this is bullshit. Make the gladiator games attendees ride the bus, not the people that use and support transit every damn day of the year. Why should the wealthy be given exclusive access to our highest-amenity transit service? Your solution is not possibl...

^This! It appears to be almost a half mile between the LRT stop and the stadium in Houston, so not really apples to apples.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Your solution is not possible, the Dept of Homeland Security requires the security zone around the Super Bowl due to it being classified as a first tier security risk event. The light rail runs directly through the security zone, and those that don't have tickets can not go into the zone. Metro Tra...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
I've noticed that at other games at the Metrodome, Metro Transit has run express buses from 28th Ave to the stadium. Also, I'm surprised that the trains have to stop at each station, but not open the doors. In Chicago, CTA will run express (when late) and slightly reduce speed when going through st...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Meh. Sure, if you're prone to be upset about subsidies to the NFL and the exclusivity of the Super Bowl, this is one more thing to get fired up about. But really, this is a pretty smart way of handling things with fairly minor impacts to most people. I would agree wholeheartedly. But anytime servic...
