Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

I warned you all about push-back. You can see some of it already popping up with regards to displacement and gentrification and adverse affects. Depending on how they handle this will determine if this lives or dies.
Is there a link to the zoom call? Or where are you getting this from.

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Regarding an I-94 alignment that could open the door for another light rail route along I-94, keep in mind the tracks in downtown are already at capacity. Another light rail line will require either grade-separation or another downtown alignment. Coming from the north it could turn at 394 right aft...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

The only good thing about the Orange/Lowry alignment is it would give motivation for a future alignment to continue east to Northeast mpls and Central avenue. Overall rankings 1. Pink/Blue. This would combine the north loop station and 94 alignments. Opening the door for light rail on 94 instead of ...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

The one that curves onto Washington Avenue is amazing is great as long as it doesn't stop at lights the whole way. Going up to Lowry is intriguing. But I think a separate line (maybe BRT) can cover a line farther up 94. Broadway needs to be the focus of Blue Line. Everybody leave comments requestin...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

With their focus on right of way in the second link its making me think that Broadway and Lowry will probably be at-grade.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

Let's not confuse people even more with figuring out the bus system. The Orange Line will operate frequently enough that I don't think most people will care if there's an express bus with a small number of trips during peak time that can get them to their destination slightly faster than the Orange...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

It sucks to be so far removed from the process. And have no input (besides surveys and comments) on what one of the biggest capital projects ever in the regions. As much as we argue over the details. There is actually a decent range of acceptable options. Lyndale or 94 to Broadway. Tunnel or at grad...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

Pittsburgh already does this. The city has three dedicated busways, and you can tell if a bus runs on them if there is a letter in front of the route number. For example, the P7 bus to McKeesport runs along the East Busway, which is noted in purple on Port Authority Transit maps. Exactly! Jarret Wa...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

I get that. I was just wondering if it would be a similar type of structure, just for the city as opposed to the county. Ya I think so. The Minneapolis city council is our friendliest elected body for transit by far. They are the most likely to approve a significant transit tax. Then they could pre...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

I mean other places have letters as rapid transit lines. The O has to be before cause there's no route 05 or something like that. The O would stand out. The other expresses are free added frequency and we need some way to show that it is. Maybe all the buses that go over there could have an orange s...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

No one is saying freeways shouldn't exist, but they also shouldn't be used to drive at speeds where humans simply can't react in time such as debris in the roadway or a stalled car on the shoulder. Also just because someone is driving on the freeway doesn't mean they wanted to. In our region there ...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Would a transit benefit district be like a city specific version of the CTIB?
If we continue to wait for the limited county transit tax to fund projects we want or intermittent state funding we will never have a transit system capable of inducing modal shifts.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Access-controlled roads and urban grid streets are far too often lumped together as it relates to this discussion. They are totally different beasts. Even 30 is too fast on city streets and in my opinion (and based on design speed) 55 is too slow for many freeways and it shows. Heck, have you even ...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

There was a train derailment on CP's Paynesville Subdivision in Plymouth between I-494 and Northwest Boulevard. Around a dozen cars off the tracks. The locomotives didn't derail and there's no injuries. Not sure how fast they were going. I think max speed on that segment is 40 mph? Would be interes...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

It's not culture to want to get somewhere fast if it's safe to do so, it's human nature. If the traffic studies and engineering says it's safe to increase speeds then we should do it. We know from traffic calming studies that if a road is built to a higher design speed people will drive faster. Many...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

You underestimate the amount of people who treat the speed limit as a suggestion and go 10+ over the limit. That is true but the reason people treat it as a suggestion is due to our enforcement practices and the culture of lowering it we'll below safe design speeds. If we're serious about speed enf...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

https://www.startribune.com/speed-limit-rising-to-60-mph-on-crosstown-and-i-394/600031541/ Just what we need, instead of people speeding at 60 now they're going to be speeding at 70. I've already seen this on Highway 100 since they raised the speed limit through Edina and St. Louis Park. Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

It will be great that many of major Minneapolis corridors will be served by ABRT by 2030 including Penn Ave N., Chicago Ave S., Lake St., Hennepin Ave, University/ 4th, and Central. However, it is so frustrating that so many other corridors that travel through dense, walkable places and have big po...
