Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
St. Louis Park already has the EV charging stations requirement and developers are having no problems complying with it. What type of EVs are they requiring? I don't know much about the topic but jus watched a good video about EV adaptation and one of the things they mentioned was that the chargers...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
I think a good way to implement a streetcar would be to turn the 18 into an aBRT. Run it normally south of lake with a stop connecting it to the streetcar. Then turn onto Lake towards 35W sharing bus lanes with the B line. With stops just north of lake on Stevens/2nd and improved pedestrian connecti...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
The express busses that will use orange line stations need some type of orange line branding. Maybe an O before the number to signify that this bus will stop at least at Lake and 46th. Otherwise people will end up waiting longer for a bus that will take them where they want to go. Example O578 to So...

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
I wish they would do something like use some of the money a developer would have spent on the study for transportation impacts to go towards transit, bicycling or pedestrian improvements in the area.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
I would like to see stairs and an elevator down to the Greenway on either side of uptown transit station. It would allow a much safer crossing of Hennepin for people transfering from the E line south to the rest of the buses. This always struck me as a silly oversight as well. IIRC there was some v...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
Think more important is the issue brought up by our friend Chet Wedgley where the bus lanes disappear south of the Uptown Transit Center in favor of a lot of turning and more general purpose travel lanes. That seems like a really crummy trade off in a number of respects. Obviously it means that a n...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
The college has about 10,000 students and is probably a bigger traffic generator than the Target Campus. Thats a really good point! Hopefully with the inclusion of the 724 in the aBRT study they will look at Zane as a future route for more service from Brooklyn Center Transit to Oak Grove Station.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
I could be underestimating it but I think from personal experience 2 lanes at slow speed is usually enough. And I think delivery drivers on any alignment will be tough. But having them turn mid block with a bunch of cars stacked up for what could easily turn into a whole mile behind it isn't a good ...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
Zane is a way stronger corridor from the residential perspective, but Broadway has the major shopping center (Brooklyn Blvd), the community college (85th), and the Target Campus (Oak Grove). The target campus can easily be served by a Zane routing too. The shopping center is a loss but I think the ...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
I was driving on Zane from Oak Grove parkway to 63rd and jus kept wondering why isn't the blue line coming here instead of West Broadway. There are so many apartment buildings in this stretch many that are affordable. A shopping center at Brooklyn Blvd, Hy-Vee and cub near 610 rowhouses to the east ...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
On the contrary, I think that's asking for collisions between vehicles and buses. And mid block turning invites crashes from impatient people trying to beat a gap and makes the street more dangerous for pedestrians. Versus a left turn only on green signal that will only allow u turns once the bus l...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
I think to successfully do a U-turn, you would have to allow cars to temporarily enter the bus lane. Exactly with 2 lanes including the bus lane there should be no problem with someone being in a bus lane for 3 seconds to get into their correct lane. Versus stopping all of the traffic for blocks do...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
My one concern is that the continuous median (mostly good) blocks turns not only into driveways, but also some streets. This is necessary to keep left turners from blocking all traffic and I understand that. The concern is that weird angles and one ways on side streets will make it almost impossibl...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
I really dislike Minneapolis' recent love affair with two-way bike paths. It can sometimes be justified, but we just reconstructed Hennepin south of Lake with separate bike lanes, so we're forcing a weird two-way maneuver for southbound bikers at one of the busiest intersections in the city! It wou...

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
I'm a instacart driver and love it even though I know that I'm driving so many miles and adding to the congestion in the area and that instacart should be a union. I've worked a lot of terrible jobs and the ability to work when I want to is so freeing plus since my car is a beater I usually make abo...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I think that using electric buses on some routes (especially shorter ones or aBRT) is a good idea but we should wait until the product advances before transitioning the majority of the fleet to electric. Buses are not cheap and if the technology is not there then we will just have to buy new ones so...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
I was skeptical of how they would fit in bike lanes while still keeping the corridor able to do it all needs to do with the right of way constraints but I have to say I'm impressed with how Option 1 manages to do that. If people have a problem with the biking in the cycle track (I know some do) I th...

Here's the final report on the Midtown Corridor study from 2014: https://www.metrotransit.org/Data/Sites/1/media/midtown-corridor/midtown-corridor-final-report-low-res.pdf For light rail/streetcar on the Greenway, they assume it would be single car LRV or modern streetcar that's approximately 94 fe...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
I wonder if the Midtown Greenway Coalition and/or other neighborhood groups would demand trains run on batteries instead of overhead wires. Since they really want to preserve the character of the corridor wouldn't overhead wires impact that? Especially as the Greenway is extended into st Paul I hop...
