Re: Highway Transitway Corridor Study
Bringing back this thread with the discussion over a Highway 36 BRT in the Purple Line thread. Also here's the highway BRT study from 2014 for those who haven't seen it or want to take another look at it: https://metrocouncil.org/Transportation/Publications-And-Resources/Transit/TRANSITWAYS/HTCSFin...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
I don't see it as a shame to shut down a route that was part of the much bigger Route 494 failure. To me it's a shame money is being burned on these experiments that are doomed to fail, especially the express routes that pretty much only serve suburban park & rides and light commercial/industri...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
As someone who's is in tune with this project, and working hard to make it better (If your interested in helping, send a DM we need more people) I have some things to say. First of all let's be under no illusion that the streetcar line is good as currently proposed at all. Both options are trash. Th...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Ramsey County needs to get some love, so probably. If I had to pick between this combined with the incoming huge flop of the Gold Line, and a $2.5 billion transit museum in downtown St. Paul, I'd maybe go with the museum. You could put a little train in the food court and ride it around :). You thi...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
$2 Billion is a lot of money even in the future... 2033, and the projected ridership is pretty low relative to the cost. And, to be honest I'm not a huge fan of either the Green or Blue Line extension routes past Hopkins and Robbinsdale. The original B Line ABRT route would be up and running right ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I think the big impact on the travel time is between the route between the Airport and Davern - that's easily 8-10 minutes on the streetcar and the only real difference between the 54 bus and the Riverview corridor. Dedicated lanes would on W 7th would improve reliability but I don't think are goin...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Ain't a chance in hell Blue Line extension gets under even 15,000 riders within 12 months of it opening. Remember ridership formulas are just that, formulas. And all the formulas are messed up due to COVID and Transit being down in ridership even tho our light rail has gained 20% ridership increases...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I consider myself very much pro rail transit but I'm left scratching my head at what this project hopes to accomplish with a modern streetcar sharing ROW for a good portion of a route that's predicted to take almost 45 minutes end to end. A speed limit of 25-30mph? This feels like you're getting th...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Highway 36 and Purple Line BRT does not have to be mutually exclusive largely because they serve two different markets. 36 serves Minneapolis and Purple serves St Paul. White Bear needs reconstruction to be safer, and slowing down the route by removing bus lanes isn't the best option for the corrido...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Why is this still being billed at a colored metro line. This seems more in line with our lettered BRT. It hardly looks like its getting dedicated lanes where it matters most. It's still gonna have between 60-70% dedicated lanes, and it will be getting street reconstructions for added safety on Whit...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
They shouldn't have eliminated a median bi-directional single bus lane on this alignment. It works in Indianapolis' Red Line by allowing buses to pass at stations, and it would only have to be implemented for a mile between Maryland and Larpenteur. Because it's bi-directional, cars don't go in the ...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
At this point I would vote for officially "downgrading" this project to aBRT. I'd rather see White Bear Ave retain the ability to do a 4:3 road diet, with strategically-placed queue jumps for buses at congested stoplights. Nothing about this corridor makes sense for being actual guideway ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
With this evening's CAC meeting concluded here's some notes I took: One of the CAC members asked about the possibility of extending the Gold Line west to the airport and Mall of America as an alternative to the streetcar and aBRT options. One of the planners responded that the idea has been tossed ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
The part without dedicated right-of-way is the part that most needs it. What exactly are the "massive improvements" here, other than rail bias? 1) 89% of the streetcar route would have dedicated right-of-way. Route 54/aBRT would have dedicated right-of-way for only 8% of the route, specif...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
With the new progressive city council in St Paul, there is time and potential political will to make this completely dedicated by getting rid of some parking. The Blue Line Extension is farther along than this project and just had a new alignment come out of nowhere to send it through the North Loop...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
The trail is at the planning of Three Rivers, for the long awaited 21 mile north south bike trail to parallel the CP rail line. Three Rivers is asking the city councils to vote on preferred routes through their respective cities by Dec 5 in order to allow the regional park district to apply for fed...
