Re: Vikings Stadium
Another option would be to designate certain roads surrounding the stadium for tailgating. Allow the cars to park diagonally and turn a street into a pedestrian mall, which is essentially is anyway. Certain areas of 4th St. could do this right now for Vikings games and hardly cause traffic problems...

Re: Lower St. Anthony Falls Whitewater Park
Huge draw? Your definition and mine must be different. I'm not saying it wouldn't be unique and interesting, but I hardly think it would draw a ton of people. I can think of maybe 3 people in my life that would ever even consider going on something like this and I know a lot of people that are outd...

Re: Office Market
I really wish we'd see the end of major growth in suburban corporate campuses (at least the ones which require new interchanges, only accessible by car, etc.) It's really a shame companies still think this is what employees want. I've turned down gigs because they're at some corporate campus outsid...

Re: Minneapolis Urban Planning
It would be nice to tackle the sprawl in Twin Cities and one way to do it would be with the creation of a developmental boundary through the Metro Council. Not exactly sure how you would draw those lines being it would be political suicide, but it could be interesting to follow the example Portland...

Re: Third North
At some point in the near future, take some time out of your day to look at some other cities on Google Earth. Just pick random places...New York, Boston, Philly, whatever floats your boat. Just zoom into to like the 2 mile distance, and grab the streetview guy on the scroll bar, and plop him anywhe...

Re: Third North
I could say I'm excited that another developer is building a large infill apartment building in the core of our city, and while it's not a Pelli or Calatrava, it probably isn't quite P'Yong'Yang-chic. I'd reckon we're starting to approach the territory where apartments just starting construction are...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
My fantasy is to re-clad city center in a light blu hue of glass and gold accents (mimmicking the LaSalle plaza a bit), add a crown of about 175 feet (flush to the sides) and open up the entrance on Nicollet. Next would be that 1200 room hotel accross from that nasty Hilton. A slender Aqua like bui...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
I've been noticing bus and billboard advertisements referencing the "Green Line" lately. Guess it's good we're starting to put that out in the world.

Stick vs. Concrete / Construction Quality Issues
Drove by this yesterday after running to campus for some Burrito Loco. (still get cravings!!) One thing you have to love about the U when they build projects is they dont cut corners. This will be the same height as all the stick built apartments going up around the area, but this thing is all conc...

Re: Northstar
I don't remember where I saw it now (I think the Strib, or some other reputable news source), but someone from Metro Transit said the Northstar actually makes a little money, so that cushion would be used to absorb the decreased revenue. If it's true that seems like a pretty big deal, yet I'm not s...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development
Drilling core samples is the most preliminary work before they determine footings and begin excavation. They have to determine at what level the bedrock is and or whether there are different sedimentary levels that might impact the foundation design. I think that this all points to the project goin...

Re: Mall of America
Getting OT, but I just rented a U-Haul this past week to move, and I was really shocked how little oversight there is with that whole operation. I'm 21 and too young to rent a Chevy Aveo from Hertz, but I show up at the U-Haul place and they just hand you the keys and say not to crash it, and three ...

Re: Thrive MSP
Reading through the comments, I think that it's much more likely to be skewed in the opposite direction -- urban-transportation super wonks recommending LRT and protected bike lanes on every street. I just don't see Joe Public spending a lot of time on the Thrive MSP site. But what about Agenda 21™?!
