Re: Riverview Corridor Not Streetcar
I honestly think the public might be more supportive of aBRT if it was called anything but aBRT. ...anything? hmm... All aboard the new "Rubber Train" Honk Honk! I kinda agree. Our METRO system has a nice name kinda should have a new name for it kinda play off of Metro.. say.. TRANSIT TRO...

Re: Metro Transit Network Now Plan
It's obviously bad (and an enormous scandal no one will ever get to the bottom of) that we've blown hundreds of millions of dollars and a decade futzing around half-planning bad projects so that various county commissioners would have content for their email newsletters, but with the momentum on the...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
It's too bad that there's not really any particular champion for the transit system at present. Clowning on McLaughlin et al on Twitter a decade ago was fun (how embarrassing!) but at the moment I can't really think of anyone prominent in charge of anything who cares about how stuff is going. I didn...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
So how much money did they spend on planning to not build a train? Hopefully not more than the local match would have been for the original B Line. Whoops!

It was incredibly predictable, just like everything else that's gone badly over the past five years.

I’m ~75% sure that 63 drivers use the bathroom at KSTP. I see them walking over from behind the building pretty regularly so hopefully they worked something out there.

Getting Snow Kreilich for your parking ramp is a pretty good gag.

From a business standpoint, it’s good for the hospital to encourage people to drive. Remember when Abbott had the McDonald’s?

That link above is for a previous proposal--here is the packet from this evening's meeting:

No clue if that would be approved or not. Kind of a tough spot.

This would be a decent get: https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2024/06/24/larkin-hoffman-weighs-bloomington-exit.html I finally let my Business Journals subscription lapse. Anything interesting in the article? The email said "mulls move to Minneapolis" and the website headline is ...

That's funny--they sent out an email a month ago with the phrase "lots to love about revitalized progress" (this does not make sense) in the header that stuck in my brain for a minute as seeming sort of like something you might read in a spam email.

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
I think you get considerably less ridership on NLX if it doesn't stop in Minneapolis. Chicago is different, but Duluth is not that faraway, hard to drive to, or to have a car in. I don't think that many people are going to be taking an hour long transit ride to Union Depot to pay whatever to take a ...

It is pretty funny that you can file a lawsuit and the courts will spend six years on procedural back and forth with laypeople skimming the 500 word articles throughout thinking that they are addressing whether or not the thing is good or bad.

Site plan approvals should be subject to the same 60 day rule as every other land use application. There might be (I’m sure there are) other regulations that make it more complicated but once you file the complete application they have to do something with it fairly quickly.
