Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

If they have to do something in the suburbs, Excelsior out to Hopkins would be nice, but combining it with the 23 rather than going downtown seems weird. There are a lot of apartments and destinations along Excelsior and the surrounding land is mostly on a grid and infillable. I was taking the 612 a ...

Re: Transit Crime

I had crazy people acting erratically on my train cars at both 4:00 PM and 8:30 PM today. After a while it's really started to make me feel like I'm the one losing my mind.

Thank you for driving the train.

Reading this article feels like taking a time machine back to 2015, which now that I think about it, I would like to do, so good for them.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

You know, actually—how are downtowns doing in other countries? Hard to compare downtown Minneapolis to a nice Western European city center for 1,000,000 reasons but what about Calgary or whatever? Are Perth and Riyadh back to their regular Monday lunch rush? Can you get a skyscraper for 97% off in a ...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

I feel like some of the underlying assumptions on this kind of thing don’t always make sense. Is a freeway armpit apartment building with a surface parking lot and water retention pond 30 miles from downtown better than five houses? Ideally, less people would be living that far out, which the five ...

Propping up the grad school industrial complex is in many peoples’ best interest, even if very indirectly. You too could someday be producing lucrative studies no one reads!

Yeah—instead of having the dumpo temporary fencing around the Government Plaza water feature for five months maybe you can just turn it into an actual ice rink? Not much walk up retail/restaurant potential around that block, though.

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center

I'm also deeply skeptical that Democrats would have performed better in the world where our local elected officials routinely told activists "the thing you're concerned about is stupid."

I think it's extremely clear that this would have, in fact, helped. There were double digit swings towards ...

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center

It's likely my own broken brain that is making me type this out on the computer, but the HERC situation came to mind for me as a good, relatively low-stakes example of the governance problems common across the blue states. It's an issue where everyone involved knows what they're doing is stupid, but ...
