Re: Nicollet Mall
There are a large number of cops on leave right now which is an issue. Which is why the city had to call in extra help from the burbs and park police. I think that's a sign of being overwhelmed given the number of active officers . I do agree that the reconstruction of Hennepin ave has moved alot of...

Re: Nicollet Mall
As someone who lives in this city, supports major changes to policing and violence prevention and has family members on the MSPD you need to grow up. Its very clear the mspd has major culture issues mostly due to the union but some due to the city council

Re: Nicollet Mall
Thats only part of the issue at best. If you look at polling data year over year a majority of Americans always feel crime is up from the pervious year.

Re: Nicollet Mall
Perception is far more powerful then the numbers to most people. 538 did a great story on this a while back https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/many-americans-are-convinced-crime-is-rising-in-the-u-s-theyre-wrong/ You can tell people the odds of a crime but if they think a place is unsafe they wont...

Re: Nicollet Mall
I think the bigger issue or cause is that in the social media age everyone knows everything that happens. One person gets mugged downtown and its all over facebook. A violent crime occurs and its all over snap chat. Even 5 years ago this didnt happen as much but I get an update every time something ...

But can we get Rudy to talk about "all the networks" for the gateways grand opening in a year or so? Tell him there are 1 million biden votes in one of the hotel rooms all filled out by hunter biden that will flip MN to trump

Re: Renaissance Square / The Andrus
State street would be great. Have a mix of stores. One thing I think people forget is not every store in a major downtown is high end. There are tons of 7-11's all over downtown chicago for example and given the fact that many skyway stores close early this will be an asset to all of the new residen...

Re: Nicollet Mall
Its very hard to judge how much of an impact the changes have had or not had given the power structure of the union. All of the changes and reforms are great but if you don’t remove the one and truly only road block you can’t fairly judge reform efforts since the union has even at times told cops to...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I will never understand the political push back to the words "light rail" but if calling it a street car means it passes and gets built I couldn't care less. Yes its not perfect but it will build a direct line from the airport to downtown st paul.

FAA has approved the crane(today) and the tower (some time ago). This should break ground any day now.

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
If they were caught off guard that people focused in on there pledge to abolish the MSPD in front of a large crowd then they are not very good politicians. Politics isn't about how many insightful papers you write its about what you say and do. Also the city was reeling from half a weeks of riots an...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
It always came off as a power grab(given they tried this a few years ago) to me while wrapping themselves in a just cause for political cover as they didnt have a real plan outside of some overly vague talking points. But I can be pretty cynical

https://finance-commerce.com/2020/11/retailers-brace-for-potential-election-turmoil/ So tomorrow is the day. Sounds like every city in the country is on edge for what could happen. Will the polls be wrong to the degree they were in 2020? Will trump do something dramatic? Will this be the only thing ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Its shocking how different it feels on Nicollet as you said vs the residential parts of downtown. One of my friends said parts of downtown are boarding up for this week. But its not just Minneapolis my friends in the bay say downtown san fran is also boarding up in case it really goes side ways. The...

Re: Star Tribune (& other local media)
Southwest journal is a big loss as they reported all of the new big and small proposals in the area much like there sister paper the downtown journal a while back. City pages even over the past 3-4 years that I have been reading has lost what made it fun and or at times even insightful(granted not u...

They assumed its what people wanted and what they wanted to hear. The issue is as an elected official there words carry weight. I think thats why when asked the same question Frey said no and walked away. The police as in all human societies have a monopoly on violence so the issue is always was it ...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
I think it really depends on the retail itself. I only went to the Columbia store when it was having its closing sale. I think the area can support one maybe two regional stores. I think the H@M does fine as it fits what the residents want. Cheap cloths. I do think that many people do view the city ...

Honestly a good spot for it. Assuming we get office workers back at some point this would do much better. Uptown was always a low traffic area imo
