Re: Ridership Trends
Very interesting! One thing that stands out is the A line not cracking the top 10 in either year. And the orange line too but that isn’t a surprise. Also interesting to see how much the 6 dropped in the rankings, maybe because the corridor is wealthier/more 9-5 commute based than many other local ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Completely agree. I’m sure a planner could give me a bunch of reasons why this isn’t the case, but once the corridor has been selected, I feel like planning these routes should take maybe six months. And that’s including community engagement.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Oh good, another reason to point out how 3C would’ve been the better option here.
But seriously, if the issue is with the operators, wouldn’t you just have the operators swap at TFS? Plenty of bus lines have mid-route operator changes. That seems like a better solution than making everyone change ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Agreed that concrete or some other physical barrier would be best, especially since the bus lanes are 24 hours. I do think that the simple fact that they are 24 hours helps keep them open. One thing I would highly recommend is painting the curbs yellow or red. I think that’s one signal drivers know ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I don’t mind a straightforward name, but they need to get rid of “go-to.” It just doesn’t roll off the tongue, and a lot of people mistakenly call it “to-go.”

Re: Gold Line BRT - Woodbury to Downtown St. Paul (2025) and Minneapolis (2027)
Why do we need to wait until 2027? Do they need to order more buses? Or hire more staff? Otherwise, it seems like you could pretty easily open this with the rest of the line. Might need some temporary stations at Snelling for a few months but that’s not a big problem.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
We need a region-wide LRT proposal, funded by the legislature or a regional government. It's insane to put it on counties to plan these on their shoestring budgets.
This 1000%.
Something like Seattle would be great. Do I agree with all their routing and mode choices? No. Is it still taking too ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
The second reason piece of community feedback they cited (after construction impacts) was safety and security concerns.
While I’m sure there are some fear mongering nimbys involved, I do think this is something transit advocates need to grapple with. If your system is safe, orderly and generally ...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
Took Borealis from Chicago to St. Paul and back Labor Day weekend. A few thoughts and observations:
- Train was just about full the entire trip from Chicago to St. Paul, with people getting on and off along the way.
- The way back to Chicago was closer to 60-80% full for most of the ride, but 120 ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Does anyone know what the plan for the multi-platform Target Field Station will be once GLX opens?

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
A few thoughts after seeing that video, some of which aren’t new:
- It really does seem like it’s just about done outside of the Kenilworth Corridor. But there’s a long way to go for that stretch.
- The St. Louis Park segment is kind of the star of the show from a land use perspective. This angle ...

Re: Blue Line LRT
Since there's plans to eventually build an automated people mover between MSP Airport's two terminals, how much impact would this have on the Blue Line's ridership? Though by the time that opens maybe there won't be concern with the Blue Line's ridership.
I have no actual data to back this up ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
With the switch to 2 car trains Metro Transit really needs to look into option on how to signal to riders roughly where the train will stop on the platform and where doors will be
This press release from the spring says trains will always be pulling into the departing (far) end of the stations ...

Interesting. Someone paid for a sponsored content article clearly pushing for streetcar. It doesn’t say who’s paying for it, but it does link to the Ramsey County website.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I really think this is something the feds should be doing. Local governments should do some planning and outreach, then go to the transportation department and say “here’s what we’re looking for.” Then the feds design, engineer and build it before handing it back off to the locals for operations and ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
With the Timberwolves playoff bound in the next few weeks, there should be a noticeable bump from bringing riders to multiple sold out home games, and thousands more fans coming downtown to watch.
I’m actually a little worried about this. Last year, the two Wolves’ playoff games started at 8 ...
