Re: Uber/Lyft

I personally don't like blackmail - so Uber and Lyft's threats and tantrums make me strongly support the ordinance. If they leave, that's a plus at this point. There will be other services/companies that can do what they do without fucking over their workers. Blackmail. I do not think it means what...

Re: Uber/Lyft

Obviously anecdotal, but my Lyft driver last night ranted about the city council decision. He claimed it’s a vocal minority of drivers and that he makes significantly more than $15 hour and presented his pay stubs at a council meeting. He did also complain about some Uber and Lyft policies that made...

Re: Greater Minnesota job market / employment news

The Soudan Mine tour is a Minnesota must do. The cage elevator is original and is kept in fantastic working order. Watching it work from the surface is interesting on its own. Once at the bottom you ride a mine train about a mile laterally. Next time you look at the Minneapolis skyline, realize that...

Re: Uptown - LynLake - The Wedge - News & General

Unless the city is able to keep a good pace of new construction. That would help offset this issue as eventually office space even on the county/city books will be devalued. A wild card is what will the value of the office to housing be. Will they require tif Well, the most visible policy debate in...

Re: Uptown - LynLake - The Wedge - News & General

Maybe. I got my truth in taxation document for 2024. No change in my property value. Overall taxes down 1.6%. I've heard from others who saw their property values increase - they will be paying more, but not by a crazy amount. The discounted prices that some are paying for apartment buildings will ...

Weidner is buying all phases of the Elan Apartments from Greystar. Paying $111 million for 590 units, they're getting a massive bargain.
If you are a homeowner it's time to start bracing for big property tax hikes...

I just don't have an opinion how 1.9 billion people should observe their religious holidays, but you do you.
Do you have an opinion on how 2.2 billion people should interpret their religious texts with respect to abortion and gay rights?

It looks good as a new project, but boy was the loss of the Archer House a massive hit to a classic small town.

I have a sneaking suspicion that looking at this is just going to make residents miss the Archer House that much more.

Has there been any analysis published on the impact of office implosion on City of Mpls budget and by extension residential property tax burden?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

It seems like that to me as well. I wonder if they are not going to dramatically reduce there office space with this move Not to denigrate call center and collections workers, but I think the Strib article suggested their downtown space was mostly support functions like that, and frankly that’s a f...

Re: Transit Crime

There's always this right/left intractable argument between using resources for tougher enforcement vs. using them to address root causes of crime, but, to some extent, it seems they are both right. Clearly, you can't structurally 'arrest your way out of crime', but tactically I think it can definit...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Top 4 floors of the office tower. I am not sure how much square footage that is, or how it compares to what they currently have. Article said they had 124,000 currently, and an old Hines release say 14 floors of office totaling 350k. 350/14 = 25k (not sure how valid that is), so maybe 124k to 100k?...

Piper Sandler is moving to North Loop Green in 2025!
Is this good news or bad news (ala Ameriprise)?

They are currently at 800 Nicollet Mall, no?

…and I’d be surprised if they are upsizing, I guess.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Who knows what went on behind the scenes, but it seems pretty interesting that a building of this size isn’t being re-structured, extended and pretended, quietly marketed while in forebearance or whatever. Straight to auction like any old 3 bedroom house.

Dont agree. And if we are talking about dt specifically, I think its forced transformation into a mixed use neighborhood rather than a place people drive to to go to work is going to be hugely positive, eventually. I actually agree with you, with emphasis on ‘eventually’. I don’t think downtowns wi...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I've probably posted this before, but my prediction is that in 20-30 years remote work will be viewed similarly to the way mid-century freeway construction is viewed today: as 'gee-whiz progress' that made life more convenient for a bunch of well off white people without any real consideration given...

Heard a rumor that the owner of 800 LaSalle has either defaulted on their loan or is soon to default. Word is this ‘A-office space’ isn’t really as ‘A’ as was underwritten. Anyone work in that building? I find this interesting in light of the new office proposed at 330 1st and the project on Washing...
