Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Yeah, I don't think traffic is a huge issue here, and if there's gonna be a pilot of some sort to improve transit on the corridor, why not shut the whole street down to only buses and bikes for a couple weeks just to see what happens?

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

I just heard that the Uptown Lund’s will be undergoing renovation soon. So for any of those of you that had a sliver of hope that maybe one day in the near future they would consider redevelopment or moving into an unannounced mixed use project nearby, those hopes can be put on pause for now. I hope...

Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?

No to Lyndale. Crossing unsignalized 32nd is already nightmare. I really want to see the signal cycles shortened on Lyndale. I shouldn’t have to wait 90 seconds to cross a street. The four way stop at 34th and Hennepin seems to be working fine. Is it going to stay that way or are they going to put i...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

I’m always glad to see new bike lanes, but honestly don’t see myself using these much at all. For most of my purposes, 25th Street is much more pretty, flat, calm, and easier to turn left off of. It does get dicey crossing Lyndale though, but that isn’t too frequent of an occurrence for me. Either w...

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park

So is 5th Street just going to remain as is? Weren't there plans to close the section between the park and tracks to cars?
Some changes have been made to the streets here, but purely to the benefit of cars :(

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

Opponents of the plan consistently talk about how this is a developer driven plan, but I get the sense that larger developers are happy with the status quo. They have the market to themselves right now, know how to work within the existing regulatory framework, and have the financial chops to build ...

Re: Arby’s Island

What frustrates me most about this project is the lack of retail frontage. Especially at Lake and Emerson. One of the things that excited me most about the hotel project was that it would begin to make a stronger pedestrian oriented connection between LynLake and Uptown. The design of Lake and Emers...

Let’s stage a photo op with shovels for Peter McLaughlin when this project starts. It’s little projects like this that have a big impact, but don’t get much attention.

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Letter from Harvey McClain (Turtle Bread owner) and another business owner, who aren't happy about the proposed 48th and Chicago station. The current bus stop already attracts some bad characters who spend time saying they "are waiting for a bus" when they are actually planning other activ...

Re: Any interest in a Dutch-style bike rider gathering?

I've also thought about having a similar ride, but oriented more on the clothing style than the bikes themselves. Something that always frustrates me about group rides, especially when they are pitched as ways to get new people into biking, is the amount of spandex, high-viz, helmets, jerseys, etc. ...

It seems really unlikely. Being in the pedestrian oriented overlay, not only drive thrus, but also fast food are banned. But gosh be darn, I would love to have a Culver’s in walking distance.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

It seems like recent projects have been making massive spaces between buildings, starting with the ultra wide alleys on the Nic on 5th block. Other examples of widely spaced buildings include the KA block, behind the Radisson Red, the behind the Uptown Target, and more. It creates a pretty poor walk...

Re: City of Minneapolis Office Building - 501 4th Ave S - 11 stories / 171'

please make meters more expensive so short-term parkers can actually find them (just had a chat about this on Twitter - meters are so cheap that when I've had to drive downtown for something quick, I usually end up circling around for 10 minutes just to find one remotely close to my location. Yes t...

I’ve always wondered why the city bothered clearing out that buffer area between bollards. Seems like a great natural added level of protection.
