Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

As recessions go, this has been a highly unusual one, because most people haven't lacked for money, just ways to spend it. I've felt for a while that, when things finally open up for good, there might be a flood of spending as people make up for lost time. It won't be overnight, but hopefully by th...

Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

It's a bit funny to hear so many items out of the 70's-90's Civic Booster Playbook. Gotta bring the suburbanites to downtown for an evening! Cheap parking! Parades! Festivals! Meanwhile, residential and office construction in downtown Minneapolis is at a multi-decade high. Everyone loves more event...

Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

Make parking downtown more easy/affordable. Lower hourly rates at parking meters, and do paid street parking in the core after 6 PM, at least on the weekends! Work with parking ramps to come up with some type of affordable parking option for visitors. *I know the city is hurting for money, but I do...

Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

New wish list - make parking downtown more easy/affordable. Lower hourly rates at parking meters, and do away with having to pay after 6 PM. Work with parking ramps to come up with some type of affordable parking option for visitors. *I know the city is hurting for money, but I don't think it would ...

Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

Im in the minority but if it can get right of way which I think if parking was removed on Nicollet is doable I want the line. I like the street car from downtown to uptown or even the greenway street car idea. Its not cost efficient I know. I am just not in favor of removing street parking along st...

Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

The city needs to work on getting people back downtown. If COVID restrictions are lifted by fall, I would like to see the city work with the Daytons Project to bring back the annual holiday show, and Bachmanns Flower Show. Also move the holiday market back to Peavy Plaza, and bring back the Holidaz...

Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

1)Small, but the "Caveman: at Theo Wirth has been really popular. It would be nice to see this develop into an entire village created by local artists. The village could rotate throughout the city's parks throughout the year. 2) See UHT to continue moving forward. 3) That the city comes to peace wi...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Little birdie told me Bar La Grassa, 112 and Birch Steak all closing. Such a shame. Unbelievable. I would have guessed perhaps 112 Eatery, but all three? It's really sad to hear so many well-regarded restaurants are closing. It's going to take along time for the city to rebound from all the closing...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Also - even though I shopped at the Target liquor store on Nicollet, I was never a fan of it opening, considering the number of homeless people and those who obviously had drinking problems whom were already loitering in the area. Bad part on the city for allowing it to open. I thought that per the ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

It's still super busy, not sure why people hanging out in front of the store would shut down a store. Already a bit ridiculous that it closes at 6. There's a big rush at 5 to get groceries before close. I am sure once more people are back downtown, the hours will return to normal business hours. Re...

The street-length lobby and amenity space along 4th for the 365 Nicollet never should have been permitted.

Re: Washington and Portland Mixed Use - 20 stories - 226'

Man, 3rd could be a good street for continued retail, restaurant use for the stadium and new density. Walk-up units and fitness rooms just take that away entirely. I've frowned on street level walk-ups and street level amenity spaces in all these new development for a while, especially in the downt...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Brooks Brothers moved across the hall from their old location this past summer. They were open a month or two and then moved out. Banana Republic in IDS is moving out too. 60-80% off the whole store currently. Almost every store in skyway level of gaviidae is closed. Retail downtown is looking quit...

Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

Thought I would start a strand for people to share things they would like to see happen in Minneapolis this year and going forward. I think the city has really made huge strides in greening efforts, walking/biking infrastructure improvements, etc. and it seems building continues in areas of the city...

Re: Seven Points Uptown (Calhoun Square)

Why the bank hate real estate wise? I would think it's a good, useful resource to have in a neighborhood, and a good foot traffic builder. Sorry to anyone who works in the banking industry, just my personal opinion most are are greedy, corrupt organizations. Look at the fallout from the Wells Fargo...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Has Brooks Brothers closed in City Center? I thought they were going to reopen with a remodel? Google maps lists it as "permanently closed" and looks like BB has been closing stores nationally with little media coverage since filing for bankruptcy over the summer. Well that sucks. Never shopped the...
