Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
A few things can be simultaneously true: (1) We need effective crime prevention efforts, which would include punishing people who commit crimes like theft (2) We need to effectively mitigate / improve on quality of life nuisances, which might include panhandling, excessive crowding, blatant drug use...

Re: Duffey 2.0 - 3rd St N
I meant to say back up* my bad. Thr3 Jack at least breaks the last 50 feet of the space by wrapping their storefront back, but the only solution for Duffey 2.0 would be to reconfigure their entire parking layout, which just won't happen. Maybe this space would have been nice if we didn't feel we ne...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics
I've been back full time in the office for over two months now. Many more people are here now than before but it's still concentrated on Tuesday - Thursday. I think downtown restaurants that are open are benefiting from less competition so they're probably still doing 80%+ of revenue now by taking ...

Re: Minneapolis Population / Density - General Discussion
Today the US Census Bureau released the official population numbers from the 2020 Census. As expected after the state-level numbers were released, MSP beat their 2019 census estimates (below their Met Council estimates, however). Minneapolis 2010 - 382,578 2020 - 429,954 (+12.4%) Saint Paul 2010 - ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics
This is my third week back in the office full time. Every day (except for Mondays and Fridays) feels more crowded than the day before. Felt like there was a decent amount of foot traffic in the skyways today, especially.

Me: "I think it's bad to have a cop car idling all day on the city's showpiece pedestrian mall, maybe there's an alternative." You guys: "So you want more people to get shot? Minneapolis is DEAD, I tell you DEAD!" Ah yes, the classic overreaction because people have different op...

There are a bunch of chairs stacked to the side of the fountain right now. Don’t know what they’re going to be used for.Sooo, they greatly reduced the seating. Yes?

Stone Arch Festival was really successful from what I've heard. It was packed with people and I didn't hear about any substantial thefts / safety concerns.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
A friend that works at a fancy downtown restaurant says while the sheer numbers of people aren't back yet, the big spenders are going wild and spending much more than usual. Spoke with Lisa Goodman and the city is definitely working on ways of getting people back downtown, but one things she mentio...

A nuclear bomb could go off downtown and Green + Grain would still have a line that wraps around the skyway. Good news on the other restaurants!Afro Deli is reopening, Vellee Deli is back open and Green + Grain has a long line that wraps into the skyway during lunch. Downtown isn't dead yet!

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
Many people have assumed that office demand will collapse due to more working from home, but I've seen a fair number of observers speculate that it might actually increase, due to more space being demanded per worker. I think I'm more convinced by the former explanation than the latter, but I'd cer...
