Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

Yeah, I agree, it's a very unfortunate outcome but not an explicitly discriminatory action that sellers are taking. Structural racism as opposed to racist intent (but maybe I'm giving people too much credit). What's the solution to this? Do people in private sales really forgo a home inspection? Ful...

Re: Interstate 94

Certainly *most* of the trips on 94 through this stretch are local, but the long-distance traffic isn't zero. Certainly some of those long-distance travellers could re-route along the 494/694 loop, 62, 36, etc. Maybe not a huge effect, but not negligible either. Additionally, for those of us who asc...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

I know it's the way the game is played, but the naming of these groups always irks me. "Citizens Concerned for [X]" is just a dog whistle. In this Strib article below, it talks about the group "Transit Done Right" which is (of course) just opposed to all transit, "sharing re...

I don't think the Dinner Theater is any sort of trouble, at least not by outward signs. I've seen decent crowds there and they seem to advertise heavily whenever a new show comes out.

FYI, the Aldi / Venue Apartments shown on the graphic already exists (completed pre-Covid). Not sure why they felt the need to color-code that since it's clearly already present in the aerial photograph they used.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Does anyone know how Metro Transit hiring is going? With all the frequency increases dependent on hiring, I wonder if it's more likely than not that those targets can be hit. Also, with the new transit sales tax replacing $300 - $400M of county contributions, what are the counties planning to do wit...

3) The growth of water parks has depreciated the allure of "get wet in your street clothes" type rides in general. This is 100% a con against these types of rides (for me at least), not even a diminishing allure. A family member of mine rode it once, somehow unaware that it was a get-wet ...

If the supra-national EU is comparable to the United States in terms of population, economic power, and international politics, then why are the EU "states" (countries) not comparable to US states? For example, Norway has almost the same population as Minnesota (5.4m vs 5.7m), similar GDP ...

Re: MPS Comprehensive District Design

It would indeed be interesting to understand how and why the average spending per student is so high. I imagine that, as a legacy school district with shrinking enrollment, administrative overhead and facilities are probably overbuilt and difficult to downsize / offload efficiently.

Re: Nicollet Mall

To reduce the bus traffic from the suburbs why not use the orange, blue and green line to bring riders into downtown? This would free up those suburban buses to run more frequent trips to feed the lines into downtown. This is easier said than done with the opt-out providers. As a former SWT rider, ...

STP has the longest runway of the regional reliever airports.
I'm no airport expert, but it certainly seems as if Anoka-Blaine has enough land to extend a runway to match or exceed DtSP's runway length.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail

I mean - maybe, but in the post-Camden Yards era, there really hasn't been the same flurry of new stadiums. I think part of the reason is that more are now in downtown locations, which are inherently more desirable than the old-style suburban sea-of-parking stadiums. A few quick google searches tell...

This will necessitate a change to the planned route for the F Line, which had a preliminary routing down Nicollet Mall I believe. I suppose they'll have to either move it to Hennepin and share stations with the E Line, or go on Marq-2 or even 3rd Ave. It feels a bit like musical chairs, trying to fi...
