Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I think there is some subtext to this discussion - I believe BOF is undoubtedly correct that the management of political capital is an incredibly important and tricky aspect of transit projects, and nils is rightly frustrated that shouldn't have to be that way . Highway and street projects are ...

Re: Eden Prairie
Remember than the original SWLRT terminus was at Mitchell Rd, essentially right where this site is. I wonder if a major mixed-use redevelopment was proposed here, whether EP would push to get a 1-mile extension to serve it.

Re: Minnetonka Area - General Topics
Strib article for the Boston Scientific move
I wonder what the chances are of this getting redeveloped as housing, given the LRT proximity. The article mentions that there is laboratory space and "the highest-class office space", so it may make more sense as a re-use instead of a redevelopment ...

Just use the local portion of funding and end it in Robbinsdale. (I know, I know, doesn't really work without the OMF, etc. etc.)

Re: 2025-2026 Minnesota Legislature
According to the MNDoR, Minnesota takes in ~$23bn in state taxes annually. Minnesotans also pay about $120bn in Federal taxes annually. Kinda makes you wonder what kind of society MN could forge on its own with a ~$143bn annual budget.

Re: 2025-2026 Minnesota Legislature
Budget agreement spending targets, per the governor's office.
Top-line numbers show -$115m in 2025-27 and -$133m cuts in 2028-29 biennium for the Transportation line-item. I'm worried that there will be clawback of either Borealis or NLX funding, which would be a shame. It's probably too much to ...

Re: Regional Rail in Minnesota
Odd question.. what if the HSR line went faster say 400 MPH and didn't need expensive rails?
No seriously.. What about a RST to STP shuttle flight that was able to let riders get through TSA faster given they are both smaller airports and allow them still reasonable transit from each airport ...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Is the infrastructure removal in the freight ROW mandated by the original federal funding agreement? IIRC, a lot of those agreements require returning the corridor to its original state if service is ended within some sunset date.

Re: Transit Crime
The overall lack of "on the beat" cops in American cities in general - whether on foot, horseback, bike, whatever - is always baffling to me. It also makes hiring officers of all stripes more expensive, because "one cop" actually means "one cop plus a $150k cruiser".

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Looking at a few maps, I'd say St Louis Park, Hopkins, Excelsior, White Bear Lake, South St Paul, North St Paul, and Stillwater. And although they are within city limits, most of the outer portions of Minneapolis and St Paul are effectively of a "streetcar suburb" built form, especially South ...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
It's a great idea to consider commuter rail to walkable suburbs, but unfortunately many of them haven't preserved the rail ROW adequately. For example, the recent Chestnut St reconstruction in downtown Chaska, while overall a good piece of urbanism, destroyed the historical rail ROW across Chestnut ...
