Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

The Blue Line currently only averages about 18 mph, and the Green Line is 14.5 mph. Neither is a failure.

Focusing on the average speed of a rail project is missing the point. I doubt a bus would go much faster either.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

It's important to remember that building transportation networks isn't really about serving the trips people are taking today, but about shaping how people take trips in the future.

In twenty years, do you want our public system to remain a safety net for only low-income people, or do you want 100 ...

I will not pretend to understand what the federal funding criteria specifically look at, however, my point is that for a similar cost figure you could make an elite tier subway line that would have (at the very least) similar ridership to BLE estimates that connects multiple of our urban cores ...

Also, since we've conceded sports arenas have about a 30 year service life, maybe we should start thinking about where to put the next Twins stadium

Twins recently agreed to a deal to stay at Target Field through 2059.

And honestly, this mindset is exactly what I mean when I talk about people ...

Metro transit “temporarily” adding a few more blocks of west bound bus lane on Marshall Ave between Cretin and Wilder (1 block east of Cleveland) due to increased westbound traffic from the 94 construction.

I bet we'll get 65% of the site dedicated to relatively dense single-family, 25% for 5-over1s, and the remainder for parks and maybe a small retail node.

Exciting opportunity, but probably a very unexciting final product.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Why this line needs to go so far into Brooklyn Park is a mystery to me (ok it's not a mystery, it's Target's influence). Both the Hiawatha and SW lines barely extend beyond the 494 loop, so why extend this one nearly 4 miles beyond 694?

Generally agree that the Target campus is part of the ...

The Phase 3 redevelopment of Dinnaken House makes no sense to me. The building is just 35 years old and the exterior still looks pretty nice. Why tear down a decent supply of student housing when you can develop around it on the rest of the block? What is so important that it must go on this block ...

It's just clear that the idea of Saint Paul being a co-equal transit destination to Minneapolis, complete with expensive guideway projects terminating there as a hub, just isn't bearing out in reality. And I think we should really think carefully about the Purple Line with this in mind.

Design-wise, it's not stunning, but if they pick the right materials, it should look a lot better than many precast buildings.

Really exciting development! Will make Stadium Village feel a lot more urban.

The new revenue means counties no longer need to subsidize transit operations and can use the roughly $49 million in subsidies previously sent to the Met Council in other ways.

Just use the local portion of funding and end it in Robbinsdale. (I know, I know, doesn't really work without the OMF, etc. etc.)

Hennepin County can't even do this now because the state is swooping in to tell the county it has to restudy an issue.

The state should either be in or out on ...

So much for "Republican legislators won't want to cut transit funding because some of it goes to their states."

Every Republican lawmaker is terrible. Not one of them has even a single quality idea.

It's hidden in the CSV file on the Metro Transit performance page, but the Gold Line's daily march ridership is available, and it is about what you'd expect. Weekdays it averaged 1,195 daily rides, Saturdays 1,696, and Sundays 836. I'd imagine the Saturday ridership is inflated by the opening day ...
