Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
I have to disagree with people saying there aren’t very many good options here. There isn’t a rule saying that all good transit lines must be X miles apart from each other. In fact, having multiple services available is necessary for building truly transit oriented communities. For example, don’t ...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
I'm curious, which are our streetcar suburbs?
Main suburbs that were at least partially developed during the streetcar era: St Louis Park, Hopkins, Robbinsdale, Columbia Heights, Minnetonka, Deephaven, Excelsior. Other parts of Lake Minnetonka were served by ferries.

Re: Uptown - LynLake - The Wedge - News & General
I have this growing feeling that after the road construction is done and both the B *AND* E lines run right through its heart that Uptown is going to see a revival. The streetscape improvements are making it much nicer of a walking environment, and the urban amenities are just too good to be in a ...

NHL franchise playing in your city is worth a whole lot more than one 20 story building next to a light rail station

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Discussion
Been a hot streak for downtown Minneapolis news lately. Paywalled article from MSPBJ about how Hempel will be opening a food hall on the ground floor of the Lasalle Building, occupying the space that used to be filled by the Rock Bottom Brewery.

Re: Gold Line BRT - Woodbury to St. Paul (3/22/2025) and Minneapolis (2027)
So, first day impressions, at least for me, were very positive. The infrastructure was really smooth running and pretty quick (the 35 minute runtime goes fast). Those flyovers were really impressive to ride over. I especially liked the stations. Nice, roomy shelters with good visibility to prevent ...

Re: Gold Line BRT - Woodbury to St. Paul (3/22/2025) and Minneapolis (2027)
I will chime in with my own baseless prediction: gold line will struggle to break 1000 daily riders in 2025. Downtown Saint Paul has much less pull than Minneapolis, and the orange line will probably start to break 2000 for the first time this summer.

Re: Gold Line BRT - Woodbury to St. Paul (3/22/2025) and Minneapolis (2027)
Curious what the risk is of the Mpls extension being successful, but the entire service getting lower frequencies due to low ridership. IMO this is why it might not hurt to have an overlay branding for the downtown to downtown segment. That way a future Purple Line or even an ABRT line could pick ...

Re: Gold Line BRT - Woodbury to St. Paul (3/22/2025) and Minneapolis (2027)
Gold Line now shows up on Pantograph. It looks like the weekend schedule is every 15 minutes (with steep morning and evening cutoffs), and every 10 minutes on weekdays. Good to see that they can start off with such a robust schedule, hopefully ridership warrants it!

Re: Ridership Trends
Very interesting! One thing that stands out is the A line not cracking the top 10 in either year. And the orange line too but that isn’t a surprise. Also interesting to see how much the 6 dropped in the rankings, maybe because the corridor is wealthier/more 9-5 commute based than many other local ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Bummed that after the B and the E line are opened this year, they are on planning for 6 new lines in the next 10 years. I get that they can only plan so many routes at a time, but I wish they could throw more resources at the program and do closer to 10 new lines in 10 years since the current lines ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
If the green line “extension” only runs between EP and Target Field, that would really be the dumb cherry on top of a poorly managed project. If this project was supposed to be an extension, you would think that planning would involve making sure timing worked for it to be one continuous route ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Westbound Route 9 buses will move from 9th St to 7th St in downtown Minneapolis. Riders will be able to more easily transfer to METRO C and D lines and other local routes. Bus lanes along 7th St will lead to more reliable travel time through downtown Minneapolis. Riders will have better waiting ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
In all reality I think this line has some good potential and really the only painful part are the minneapolis stations.
It seems like green line extension has mostly good suburban stations and some pretty terrible stations in Minneapolis. Blue line extension seems to have the opposite problem ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Fortunately, I can bike to work between Longfellow and Hamline-Midway most days. Occasionally I have to drive. What I observed yesterday around 4:15pm on Marshall Ave/Lake St heading west from Fairview/Prior Aves to well into Minneapolis was pretty astonishing. Took about 5-7 cycles to get from one ...
