Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Hopefully with the 2050 comprehensive plan, they at the very least update a lot of the city and county bicycle network maps. I don't think the city map has been updated since 2020 or so.

This was one of the developments that was written about being affected by the 2040 pause. Glad to see that's behind us now.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
HAWKs really don't make sense to me. If you're gonna go to all of the work and expense to put up what is essentially a traffic signal, make it work like a traffic signal that doesn't have multiple confusing phases that average drivers don't understand. Green -> yellow -> red is already understood ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
I'm personally hoping that they go with the options that include raised medians for a lot of low traffic intersections, that'll really help out with removing a lot of conflict points. I do agree that raised crosswalks are the next step.

Re: Federal Building & Post Office redevelopment speculation
Would the NRHP designation prevent building on top of the structure? When I was in Toronto last year, there was a lot of highrise development being done on top of historic buildings there while keeping the facade and majority of the interior intact.

Re: University of Minnesota - News & General Topics
Whether or not college students are poor, they're also a population in Minneapolis that has much lower car ownership rates and much higher transit reliance than average. In terms of equity, they probably don't need it, but in terms of transit usage, there's a big need there. All you have to do is ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
American Blvd may be one of the most overbuilt roads in the "Urban" designated suburbs. I've said it in another thread, but there's little chance of making it an area that feels conducive to transit ridership when you need to cross an astonishing 19 lanes of traffic on foot to get to the opposite ...

Wow, looking at streetview, there's easily less than 10% parking utilization along 54th for most of the newly constructed portion.

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Corridor - General Topics
According to Longfellow Whatever, 3561 Minnehaha is finally out of the development hell that it was placed in due to the 2040 plan limbo. Like to see that the plan is to take the old building apart for material reuse rather than take the wrecking ball to it. Lots of aesthetic value (brass fixings ...

Oh wow, it used to look a lot different than it does today. Thrilled either way with reducing office space and adding to the downtown population if it does get converted to residential. Every conversion means momentum towards downtown as a thriving neighborhood.

Re: Des Moines
Coming from Des Moines to the Twin Cities, I never thought I'd see this finally happen after the handful of updated proposals that ultimately went nowhere. I think it was Mandelbaum that got sued by the city a few years ago for not building their tower after getting some help from the city on it.
