Re: Bloomington - General Topics
Here's a new proposal for a four-story, 180-unit apartment building on the site of Wixon Jewelers and five lots south of it. This is only 1/4 miles away from 98th Street Station/South Bloomington TC. All the units will be income-restricted to between 30% and 70% AMI. There is underground parking ...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
I agree- the higher profile projects get love, media coverage, and attention, but the smaller, piece meal reconstructions are kind of a black box, or at least are that way to many people.

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
The “strong and fearless” types can use the painted lane, while slower riders can choose between that and the sidewalk. With the MUP everyone will have to share 10 feet.

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
An improvement is a given because it’s a reconstruction. The amount of improvement is subject to the decisionmakers. This particular design is decreasing the separation between bikes and peds. This isn’t, say, France or Normandale, where it’s worth crossing to one particular side for less crossings ...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
My impression of the commercial nodes project is more of making them look nicer and more like a corner you’d see in Minneapolis- more activated street frontage, nice facades, smaller apartments.

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
Yeah, the South Loop has been pretty disappointing recently. I still think the southern half of Penn-American is doing well for itself though. Anyway, there has been a recent study on the commercial nodes about a “toolkit” for public assistance. I’m not really sure what the point of the study is but ...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
The only people that would have to cross twice are those on bikes. Which is addressed with proper separated modes.

Design consistancy- If I recall correctly Nicollet is going to have a pair of really wide sidewalks- functionally a pair of MUPS- over 494. Despite that, after the bridge was designed, we decided to have a change of design northward of that with one-way cyceltrack.

Can you share a bit more about Xerxes and 106th? Anyway, I personally think the shared use path is a downgrade from separated bike and pedestrian facilities. I see dozens of kids walking and biking to Kennedy and I couldn’t imagine trying to mix the clusters of walkers with the faster bikers, the ...

Two concept designs for Nicollet Avenue and a survey, along with a third open house on the 14th of October, 4:30-6:30.
The first concept is kind of a dud and has a shared use path and sidewalk, and the second has a sidewalk-level protected bike lane on each side.
This is a pretty rare opportunity ...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
I'm quite happy with the short extension of the bike/shoulder lanes on Bush Lake Road, especially since it continues through the pedestrian crossing at Maryland Avenue where there's a refuge island and the road narrows, so now you don't have to either go into the car lane or hop the curb and go on ...

Possibly with someone considerably lighter than me downhill with the 18.6 mph speed limiter turned off (that corresponds to 30 km/hr which I guess is a limit in a lot of other countries).
I personally don't get more than around 15-16 mph on it on flat surfaces with the throttle maxed out ...
