Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
Valspar always confused me. When you go to Home Depot and take a look at their paint cans they say "Valspar Corporation, Wheeling Illinois." You'd think it would say Minneapolis.

Re: Subsidized Housing
Howzabout Costco installing a back-door entrance only for people who earn less than the median? Heck, why stop there? Perhaps you'll soon have to fill out a financial statement before you can even get a membership. Maybe Southdale will provide premium parking only to those owning a BMW or Mercedes? ...

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
The article used the right word. The Poor Door is Dickensian. I hope no one really is advancing the argument that "they" don't require a nice lobby so why should they pay for one? Well, I'll bet dollars to donuts that lobby's cost was distributed among all the apartments, not just the mark...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
I will echo Michael's post. Yes, I do have reservations about the tension between the system and the street life. But when I lived at the Churchill Apartments some years ago I can say I was absolutely delighted that I could walk across the city in my sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt when it was either...

Re: Architecture Drawings
I concur with Nate. When I was in the U's architecture school some of our design textbooks included Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space and The Psychoanalysis of Fire and Christian Norberg-Schulz's The Phenomenology of Place. Not exactly tech manuals!

Re: Push @ Glenwood (2601 Glenwood)
I'm typing this live.... I think another person died tonight at the Fruen Mill at 2601 Glenwood. I'm just a half-block away house-sitting for friends. There are at least 16 emergency vehicles on site. Floodlights are illuminating the tower. You can see people with flashlights inside the building. I ...

Re: Minneapolis Riverfront
Almost impossible, I know. But I would love to see the falls "restored" as a real waterfall instead of an engineered sluiceway. Not many cities in the world have a 400-foot-wide waterfall in the center of their downtown. Even if it is just a "reconstruction" of what was originall...

More tidbits. I have also heard independently about Norman Foster's involvement with Opus. [QUOTE=Texas RE;116613750]I should state for the record that the Trump Organization has long sought to develop in downtown Minneapolis. Back in the mid- to late-90's, they had considered teaming up with the Op...

Yeah, that parcel is in the densest census tract in the city, isn't it?Or even that giant vacant lot at Nicollet and 18th. Nicollet/Franklin wouldn't be much more convenient for someone on Clifton or Oak Grove than the Lund's...

Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
Nice article on the upgrade of the Loews Hotel. Chairman Jonathan Tisch is "bullish" on Minneapolis. “The bones of this property are very good,” Tisch said. “With some well-spent additional capital, an upgrade will really reinforce its position as one of the finest hotels in Minneapolis.” ...

Once again, a nice quote from June down in Dallas: [QUOTE=Texas RE;116346105] Yes, things are going slower than it should be, but all plans are moving forward, the delays are not because of the developer though, some are because of market conditions, some for other reasons. The 4th & Hennepin de...

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)
There is an interesting "mirror" dynamic going on here. A modernist tower on the east bank of the 3rd Avenue bridge with the almost equally-tall historicist Carlyle on the west bank of the bridge. Kinda fun.

Re: Downtown Office Market
I hope no one thinks that the rumors are completely made up. The stuff I hear (at least) comes from people in the business who work at various levels in the development or design of projects. I've also seen renderings and I have created renderings myself for clients (most recently studies of new lig...

And one more regarding the Opus/Ritz block... [QUOTE=Texas RE;115933895] ...The hotel-condo tower could be developed by the hotel developer themselves, leaving the retail center connecting the 2 towers & the office tower for Opus to develop. It lessens the risk for Opus, increases the potential...
