Re: Junction Flats - (643 Fifth Street North)

I agree with your point. But I think Archiapolis is not talking about an exurban site. Just one in the new "green" river corridor north of downtown. That's only a mile further north than HERC is now. And it's in the middle of a light industrial center.

Re: Downtown Office Market

Perhaps this belongs in Anything Goes, but I thought it was applicable to the speculation regarding the downtown office market. We've been hearing about prospects for new buildings downtown and the one thing going against the idea of height is that there is ample land available. So why build tall? G...

Re: Rumors!

Now, a possible Convention Center Hotel on the Century Plaza site at 3rd Av & 12th Street is a whole 'nother animal. Even a shorter building on this site would dominate the skyline as seen from the same vantage point. Here I took a little more care in the design than the office fortress above. P...

Re: Rumors!

Well, just for the hell of it, here's what 1100 feet looks like at the 10th & Marquette location. Yeah it's a dumb box but I didn't really spend much time on this one other than carefully scaling it and putting it in the right location. 78 Stories BTW. http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3627/off...

Re: Orchestra Hall

dragging their feet? it's a one year project. if anything seems a rapid pace to me. they're adding a new lobby it's not a small addition. supposed to open in june/july seems pretty quick to me.
I hope there is going to be a decent orchestra playing in the hall once it does open. :(

Re: Downtown Office Market

I've also heard some talk behind the scenes. I think nasa is correct. There may be 3 or 4 new towers soon.

Re: Downtown Office Market

^Interesting last paragraph:

"Plaza Seven is under contract to be sold to an undisclosed buyer. The Radisson hotel that's attached on the lower floors of the tower is also expected to be sold to a different group."

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)

I've never organized a trade show, but yes, I would imagine a lot of conventions would rather have most of their attendees all at one hotel rather than scattered across three or four. Only because it would probably make communication and coordination easier. That said, Minneapolis does have a rather...

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

I'm usually not cynical, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that most residents of Nic on Fifth will drive to the Whole Foods. ;)

Re: Handicraft Building Apartments

I suspect that web page is quite old. Pratt-Ordway were the one who were going to build The Nicollet, and Miller-Dunwiddie Architects were slated to renovate the Handicraft Building. Nothing's been done and Pratt-Ordway no longer have control of that parcel (although someone please correct me if tha...

Re: Downtown Office Market

Regarding the Ryan/Strib project, I wonder how this will affect demand for additional office space in the core. Hines was shopping for tenants for its proposed building at 10th & Marquette and if Wells Fargo is off the table do you think it would affect the size of that project? Additionally, if...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

^If you're talking about residents of downtown having a say then I tend to agree with nasa here. Residents bought into the downtown lifestyle by choice. But the general public should still have a voice when it comes to subsidies. It occurred to me that this development, along with the stadium and su...

I wonder where Zygi Wilf is in all of this? I thought he was hoping to be the big player in this area.

Re: Washington Avenue

Great job! I love how this makes sense of the entire DTE/West Bank and eliminates so many dead-end corners of the area. Some years ago there was a study that concluded that blight tends to occur in dense urban areas that have been disconnected from the greater network of movement. Much like blood cl...

Re: Vikings Stadium

So why does this work at the MOA but couldn't work at the stadium? I think too much emphasis is being put on condesation here. Obviously it is working at MOA and the area it is in is pretty damn big. The Mall of America doesn't even have a central heating system. But it's unlike the stadium in that...

Re: Vikings Stadium

I really don't think that's a glass roof. It's more likely a fabric tensioned roof or ETFE system like the one in New Zealand:

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

I wonder if it's the same coloring issue going on with Loring Vue Apartments -- with a recent rendering showing darker colored stone vs. the (actual reality) lighter colored stone. Maybe these simulations have a difficult time determining what limestone looks like here??? I do renderings for a livi...

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

A little detective work led me to find these images on the web. These may or may not be accurate given the change to the tower's roof but they make the project look a whole lot better I think. The way the building meets the street is quite nice. http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/995/niconfifth001.jpg...
