Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
I emailed the people working on the B Line about extending the western terminus to Lake & France. They said that wasn’t considered because of their “station spacing guidelines” which requires stops every third- to half-mile (between France and West Lake Station is 0.2 miles). This is despite the fa...

What's up with the display size for emojis? They appear comically huge, at least on a PC.

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics
But for 2nd ring suburbs, I'd take Hopkins, Bloomington & North St Paul pretty clearly over Eagan. Little Canada, Arden Hills, New Hope/Crystal also have their charms. I don't want to get this too OT, but I meant '2nd ring' in the context of land use patterns and era of development, rather than pur...

Eagan approved two new "mystery" grocery stores back in November, but store names were not provided in this article: https://www.hometownsource.com/sun_thisweek/community/eagan/eagan-city-council-approves-two-new-grocery-store-plans/article_e6bb8446-2a7b-11eb-bb2e-6f7d082bc216.html Now confirmed tha...

Re: Portico at the Falls - 4737 Minnehaha Ave
As far as I know this is still moving forward, but has not started construction. The website indicates that 8 out of the 25 condos have been "reserved". Likely won't move forward until they surpass 50%, including some of the more expensive/larger units. https://porticoatthefalls.com/building/residen...

Re: Ideas on Funding
We should not be content with one aBRT line every 3 years, but we also shouldn’t be begging the legislature for the money for those lines and delaying them indefinitely when we don’t get it (thankfully we finally did). Hennepin County easily could’ve opted to fully fund the B, D and E lines 5 years ...

Re: Elliot Park
This may be a bad take, but I have pondered if North Central University is actually holding Elliot Park back at this point. They control a lot of property that would otherwise probably be turning over to higher and better use. Much of that being pretty weak land uses, and 100% of it is tax exempt. I...

Re: Minneapolis City Planning Commission
If the official Census population approaches 440k , each ward will hold around 33,800 residents (+/- 5%). That's up from the 29,429 that the current wards were drawn at (based on the 2010 Census), so each ward will have to hold an additional 4,371 people (technically ~3,000-6,000 using the extremes...

Re: 800 Washington Ave - 14 stories - 173' (Guthrie Ramp liner development: Reloaded)
Agree with everything Aaron said. The key factors to determining whether this is a good project worthy of public subsidy will be: 1. How much public subsidy is required per unit? If it's a lot (and it will be), could that money be better spent on building affordable rentals and/or other housing supp...

MOD NOTE: the formerly separate thread for Uptown Retail & Restaurant News had gotten pretty quiet, so I merged the posts from 2018-2020 into this main thread here and archived/locked the older posts from 2012-17. Makes sense to have just one Uptown general thread.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Abi's Cafe , a Salvadoran pupusa restaurant that has been operating from a tiny storefront near Lake & Bloomington (right next door to Taqueria Cuatro Milpas, which btw is the best), will soon relocate to the former Egg & I location in LynLake - 2828 Lyndale. The old location closes its doors today...

Really need some movement on the Post Office property. That parking ramp must come down in the 2020s.

While the TCF name survived the merger with Chemical Bank and HQ move to Detroit, it wasn’t for long. Another merger, this time with Huntington Bank (of Columbus OH), means the TCF name will disappear. https://www.freep.com/story/money/personal-finance/susan-tompor/2020/12/13/huntington-and-tcf-fina...

The Governor's "Blue Ribbon Committee" on reviewing the Met Council (effectiveness, elected vs. appointed, etc.) appears to have met for the final time and put together a report of their recommendations. This is more “central 38th Street” than the eastern stretch covered in this thread, but the city is doing something called “Thirty-Eighth Street THRIVE Strategic Development Plan”, covering Nicollet to Bloomington. Re: CHS Field (St. Paul Saints Ballpark)
Based on the Strib comments, Twins fans are almost universally in favor of this move. I've never seen so much agreement in a Strib comment thread, ever. Especially when said topic is regarding a pretty big change. People are generally wedded to the status quo on everything, no matter the subject.

Re: CHS Field (St. Paul Saints Ballpark)
Not sure where else to post this, but the Twins and MLB are continuing in their pursuit of the Saints leaving independent ball and becoming the Twins new AAA affiliate. This has been talked about since late '19, when MLB announced a massive realignment and contraction of minor league teams. It's bee...

Ugly building, but losing a medical clinic probably not a win for the neighborhood, right? Thank you. Honestly I've never thought that hard about the building being ugly. I barely notice it when going to Riverview Theater or Cafe or Mother Earth Gardens. It's pretty blah, but to act like this is th...
