Re: Subsidized and/or Affordable Housing
The Minneapolis Fed is now tracking trends in investor-ownership of housing in Minneapolis. Over 30% of North Minneapolis single family houses are owned by investors. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/high-poverty-neighborhoods-in-twin-cities-see-explosion-of-investor-owned-homes-the-minneapolis-fe...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Just when it seemed like we were finally going to see aBRT lines open faster than one every three years (2016-A, 2019-C, 2022-D, 2025-B). It seems likely the E line will open in 2026, so that'll break the pattern at least. Then the plan seems to be to open the G Line in two phases, late 2027-28 (Ric...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
Anything going on with 20 Washington? Voya vacated the building, consolidating their offices in 250 Marquette. The website for Washington Square no longer includes 20 Washington, now marketing it as a two-building campus consisting of 100 and 111 Washington. I found a fairly recent leasing brochure ...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
I do think that cutting out the 535's direct service to Normandale has hurt the Orange Line more than Metro Transit expected. College ridership is much more resilient than rush hour downtown commuter ridership has been in the remote work era. I didn't develop this contrarian thought until really lat...

Re: Gold Line BRT - Downtown St. Paul to Woodbury
Eh, I'd say the ball is in St. Paul's court to sweeten the pot. $209k is kinda weak? Her property probably isn't worth more than that, but in the current housing market she's not able to buy any equivalent housing for $209k. It's standard practice (required by law even) to pay relocation fees in any...

Re: Gold Line BRT - Downtown St. Paul to Woodbury
While I completely understand that any service west of Downtown St. Paul is "not part of the project", and there are likely cost-sharing agreements in place between Ramsey and Washington Counties to pay the operating expenses... Is there any concern at Metro Transit / Met Council that open...

Article: https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2024/04/15/gm-headquarters-rencen-detroit-hudsons-tower/73328040007/ Minneapolis or St. Paul could really use a Dan Gilbert. Re: North Loop Green - 350/360 N 5th St - 35 stories - 393'/418'
The office building is reportedly already 67% leased, and tenants will begin occupancy in June: https://finance-commerce.com/2024/04/jll-office-leasing-slow-but-north-loop-green-is-bright-spot/ That leasing news may bode well for Hines's next spec office project at 900 Marquette, which won't start w...

Re: Fantasy maps
Minneapolis (led by RT Rybak, who had a pretty strong bully pulpit at the moment) demanded the bridge be 'LRT ready', in part because the final route of the Green Line had not been set. By that time in fall 2007, I'm guessing Washington Ave SE had been chosen as the preferred route, but there were s...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
MOA foot traffic has been at or above pre-pandemic levels for a while now. I wouldn't be surprised if ridership at MOA Station is back to >90% of pre-pandemic. So I don't think fewer LRT trips to the mall are a likely explanation for the Blue Line's slower ridership recovery. It's mostly remote work...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Agreed, no doubt Best Buy has empty space in their ramp. I suggested Dick’s because it’s a surface lot and probably easier/cheaper for Metro Transit to lease a few dozen spaces out in the open vs. inside a secure ramp. Much longer walk for riders too if they had to go in the ramp, use an elevator, e...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
To get a P&R back at 76th & Knox, Richfield would have to lobby/convince Metro Transit to pay to lease some parking spaces from Dick's. That northern wing of the parking lot behind the store can't possibly be seeing that much use. I imagine Dick's would be a willing partner. There's no way t...

Haven't seen anyone post here the updated 30% design plans that were released in March. Fun to look over the more detailed changes to the route they have planned. Lots of road dieting and pedestrian/bike improvements on 21st and Broadway. Will be nice for North to have a second connection over I94,...

I don't think they're extremely uncommon. Maybe for all-ages properties they are rare, but senior co-ops seem somewhat common. I believe all the "Applewood Pointe" places that United Properties has built across the metro are structured as co-ops.

Didn't read the whole article because I know how much KSTP loves to hate light rail, so the gist is there was a hiccup in which recently installed light rail track in the Kenilworth Corridor was one foot too close to the parallel freight track. https://kstp.com/5-investigates/new-problem-uncovered-...

Re: 2023-24 Minnesota Legislature
If I had to pick two provisions of the housing bill that are "must pass" items, and I could live without the rest of the bill, it would be: -capping residential parking requirements at 1 space/unit. -capping minimum lot area requirements. On capping minimum lot size, I'll be fine with what...

I don't think I'm making this up, but don't Uber and/or Lyft have a stated goal of eventually replacing most/all drivers with autonomous vehicles? I swear I remember reading that a while back, and it makes perfect sense. Now, the timeline for a full rollout of autonomous taxis is not what people tho...
