Re: Metropolitan Council

Nah this has nothing to do with Lake Elmo. Likely has to do with how County Commissioners view the Met Council in the post-CTIB era. There are some legitmate issues with the Met Council structure, particularly its dual function as a regional transit/transportation planning body & the region's federa...

When a brewery owner wanted to amend a zoning regulation to allow wine-only shops in closer proximity to other liquor stores than is currently allowed, an extremely St. Paul thing happened: https://www.twincities.com/2021/05/03/with-4-3-vote-st-paul-council-quietly-kills-effort-to-allow-more-wine-on...

In August 2018, the city’s Planning Commission approved a site plan modification that, as a condition of maintaining a drive-through at 234 Snelling Ave. N., requires Starbucks to “provide, at their expense, a traffic control officer to direct vehicular traffic on the site during the morning peak p...

Since we're now talking about the inner portion of a 35W/36 route, watch this link for updates on MnDOT's new "35W North Gateway" study from Park Ave. in Minneapolis to Co. Rd. C in Roseville . If there were ever an opportunity to have an early impact on where potential freeway BRT stations would be...

Re: Minnesota Representation at the Federal Level

If MN's population passes WI's by 2030, as it is likely to do, WI would lose its 8th congressional seat. We still might lose one too, depending on the pace of growth in other parts of the country, but WI could very well be on the chopping block before MN.

This thread is for more issue-based stuff, city actions, budget decisions, redistricting, etc.

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion

We do have general elections. They're not perfect, but they're so much better than caucuses. In a city where it's a foregone conclusion that the winner of any election will be some flavor of DFLer, why not just let the electorate-at-large sort it out? Yes, this. Sidebar: I kinda miss the primary fo...

Bro, none of us are in charge of this project or actually working on it. I'll focus on making suggestions for things that might actually happen, while you do what you do with 90% of your posts, which is to live in a fantasy train brain world where budgetary constraints don't exist. At any rate, the ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

I think we all share a desire to see some grade separation along Broadway for anywhere from 1 mile (Lyndale to ~Newton, bare minimum) to 1.5 miles (Washington to Penn). I don't think the City of Minneapolis or a few train nerds online are going to magically force consideration of deep-bore tunneling...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

^Ok let's chill out with all this Kenilworth sidebar. Not super relevant, honestly. None of the SWLRT tunnels (built or unbuilt) included stations, which is the bigger cost-driver than the tunnel itself. And since DPT did mention the airport tunnel upthread, there's literally no alternative for dire...

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

I'm almost wondering if one of the "no" votes (Mitra, most likely) will bring a motion to reconsider (or whatever you'd call that) at the next meeting, after the Council gets an earful from constituents and advice from the city attorney. They could save face on their change of heart by getting Alatu...

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

I'm sure they could sue the city for wrongful denial of a conforming site plan and likely win, but do you think they are likely to do that and go ahead with making a very costly investment in a project that the neighborhood is extremely hostile to, and the city council has rejected? AFAIK, Alatus te...

Having flashbacks (probably documented in this thread) from when the building owner came to the city asking for a variance to turn part of the space into non-retail, saying that they would never be able to attract a restaurant due to the building's lack of any loading dock. Surely the city prohibits...

Hiawatha Golf Master Plan should have passed tonight, as the vote was 4-2 in favor (French and Severson opposed), with 2 abstentions (Vetaw and Bourn) and one absent (Hassan). However, one of the friendly amendments (by Vetaw) earlier in the discussion was to rename the clubhouse (after Solomon Hugh...
