Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Wow, that's pretty good news. Metro Transit is due for a new bus contract, and with the issues worked out with the C Line buses, hopefully they feel ready to continue with electrification. Will be interesting to see how COVID effects shake out, currently they're operating 80% service with probably a...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

The combined Nicollet-Central line from American Blvd to Northtown would be about 20 miles in length. There's definitely reason to continue the Central line up to Northtown, it's a major destination and anchor on the line. I think it would be plausible to send the Nicollet line down to 98th and 35W....

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Metro Transit has broken up routes in the past because length affects reliability. Most recently, the #4 trips were separated at rush hour to begin and end downtown. Since Covid happened, that practice has stopped. Other routes have been trimmed in the past. Route 10 used to operate along Nicollet a...

New bus schedules start Sept 12 https://www.metrotransit.org/service-adjustments-will-begin-saturday-sept-12 Highlights: Many urban lines improved to have better weekday and peak schedules. 10 min Blue and Green line frequencies. Most suburban lines still suspended. Some route 7 trips to Ft Snelling...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

The 724 is a pretty busy line. It serves a bunch of apartment complexes on Zane which is the main source of ridership. The Brooklyn Center Transit Center feels like a weird forced transfer. Before the mid/late 90s the 721/2/3/4 were all branches of the 5, the 801 didn't exist, the 717 was a branch o...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

I am actually interested in how the 63 on Grand made the cut but the 2 didn't. Both are part of the "Better Bus Routes" program which is basically the light version of the BRT program. I would imagine there is some analysis on average trip distance in the corridor, which may better explain why the 2...

Yeah, I think the table is off - two rows highlighted in the wrong color. Still good routes for frequency bumps!

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Well, it looks like Network Next is well underway and we are getting the first look at the new list of possible BRT lines. A presentation will be made to the Transportation Advisory Board later this month. Other changes to Network Next include postponing the local and express study to 2021 and choos...

There's new Google Earth imagery from 6/2/2020 and various other dates in the suburbs. Pretty cool to see what's going on downtown, aftermath of the riots, the airport, etc.

Peak service was every 15 min in the AM peak and 12-15 min in the PM peak from what I remember.

What about Lyndale to 21st, then a few takings to get the alignment back onto Broadway somewhere near Irving or Ilion?

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

There was originally supposed to be connecting bus plans published for public hearing this spring. That was withdrawn, and I haven't seen anything since. I would imagine the Lake St and 494 projects are still underway. The other stations would probably be able to be built next year and still meet th...

My mind immediately goes to Jacob Wetterling case which I remember seeing all the time on the news growing up in the late 90s and 2000s. But that was in St Joseph (near St Cloud), not St Michael.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Generally people are willing to commute up to 30 minutes for work. People usually will commute longer if the pay is good or if they don't have to make the commute everyday. Generally lower paid jobs mean people will not commute as far, but low-income transit commuters often have lengthy commutes. Tr...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

There's pretty extensive grade separation on the SW LRT line. Removing the rest probably wouldn't have significant impacts on the operations of the lines. The other lines would benefit from some grade separation though. I think the 46th/Hiawatha and the University/Snelling intersections would be nic...

I've not seen this before, an internship to clean bus stations and do landscaping work. Looks like they are targeting high schoolers that have cars, as the work site doesn't have a bus line.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Looks like if a regular fare is charged, then the rules don't apply. Still leaves the question about the logic of subsidizing special bus routes.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Public transit carriers cannot operate special services (like football express buses) without first advertising the opportunity for private operators to operate a comparable service. Additionally, if running a special service is not profitable, I do not think it's a worthy endeavor. Metro Transit ha...

Annoying to see another six story project. The street engagement is pretty nice, though. Looking forward to this coming to fruition.
