Re: The Penfield

Some new renders released. Seems they won't be preserving as much of the facade on the west side of the Public Service Building as they originally intended. http://assets.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estate/Penfield.Renderings1.jpg?v=1 http://assets.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estat...

Re: Nicollet Residences

I dont think mixed use with office and apartments would be smart for a developer. I would think eventually the plan would be to turn these apartments into condos. That goes out the door if you add an office component. When you have a mixed use property, it is a lot harder for the condo buyer to get...

Re: Nicollet Residences

I NEVER liked the design of this thing, or even having this location being 100% residential. I ALWAYS wanted Opus to put up, at the very least, a mixed-use building or office building -- 30 floors MINIMUM. This location is THE location in downtown for new development, IMO, and I think this is a ser...

Re: 600 5th Street North

I think ESG and BKV have done some great work. I also don't fault developers for some of the lackluster apartment projects of late. We've seen some very good condo projects this last decade by the very same developers who are now doing apartments. Just compare some of the apartment projects Sherman ...

Re: 600 5th Street North

I think what we need is some new architectural blood in the twin cities. The majority of the work is done by just a handful of firms. BKV and ESG in particular seemed to have cornered well over half the market.

Re: Mall of America

The idea of Cupcake on Grand in Saint Paul is going into hibernation. The Mall of America extended an offer and a shop is expected to open there August 1st. They're required to be open by the 11th, the MOA's 20th birthday. I'm guessing the mall is going to pay for lots of cheap/free cupcakes that d...

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark

Midway Stadium is a dump. In fact it was actually built on a landfill. The field is literally sinking. It's not ADA compliant. It's concessions and restroom facilities are limited. It's on an island by itself. Nothing around. No bars or restaurants. The Diamond Products site has very limited redevel...

Re: Southwest LRT

I don't think the cities or municipalities will necessarily get all the money they ask for. I can see St. Paul getting $15-20 million. Southwest getting $5-10. They'll pull something silly. Try to appease as many as possible and so on. St. Paul can probably make up the difference with the $2.7m ther...

Re: Central Corridor LRT

I've been wondering, does anyone have a guess as to how much of the actual rail line has been installed so far? I haven't traveled the route in awhile. I'll take a guess and say they've got at least 50% of it installed. If anyone can complete this map that would be awesome. I'm pretty sure all the r...

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark

And after walking by the O&M building while it's under construction many times, it's plain there is no way they could brace the roof to support anything on top. There are long caverns inside where tracks will be, hence no steel columns or load baring walls. When you drive over the Lafayette brid...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development

I wouldn't call it "fully" supported. Read some of the CLPC's meeting minutes. There were some threads on e-democracy as well that were quite negative towards this project too. There was and is still a lot of consternation about the lack of parking. Just because organizations like the CLPC...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development

If this project was about to break ground, one would think at least one of our local news sources (Star Tribune, Finance & Commerce, TC Business Journal,etc...) would be all over it. Whatever the case, I'm hopeful construction will start soon. I'm not too surprised. The Penfield finally started...

Re: 222

I think they only retained the parking ramp where the cars were stored. The dealership's front office/sales area had been demolished when Google aerials were taken in April. If you're seeing something other than the ramp, it must be new. He's only referring to the ramp. Does anyone know if the top ...
