Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
Yes, the 5000 series cars are in the process of having their signs replaced to support color. While the problem was significantly worse for tourists (who usually can't equate destination name with line color) it was also a problem for anyone on loop stations-- with a colored sign you can identify wh...

Re: Bottineau Corridor (Blue Line Extension)
Why isn't this line ending at Brooklyn Blvd? That's right about where density take a nose-dive, dropping from 4-6k to 1-1.5k. Seems like a waste to me.

Re: How do you primarily get around?
I'm in the wrong city, but I'll answer anyways. I answered multimodal. I bike to school about 70% of the time and walk the other 30%. It's about 7 minutes on bike and 20 on foot. My work commute is rather long-- 10 minute bus ride, 20 minute train ride, then 20 minute walk. A typically walk to most ...

Re: 330 South 12th
I'm with MNdible here... I would be expecting something around 350 feet.
Still certainly qualifies as "significant height" in Minneapolis.

Re: Northern Lights Express
The vast majority of people I see boarding the mid-afternoon Hiawathas that I occasionally watch board while waiting for the Empire Builder are business people types who are presumably traveling from the Loop to somewhere in MKE-- They're going to have to languish forever on the Kennedy on a weekday...

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)
How tall is the tallest Riverside Plaza building (McKnight Tower)? I thought it was 44 floors, which SHOULD be taller than the 35 floor Magellan development... The tallest Riverside Plaza building is the McKnight Tower at 39 stories and 337 feet. It's the tallest apartment building, 2nd tallest res...

Ended up spending the last 4 hours looking at all the old breweries, mills, and railyards that are long gone.

Re: Stick vs. Concrete Construction
Speaking of longevity of concrete buildings--- Look to the old factory buildings that have already been abandoned for some time now. I'm talking large warehouse-style factories built between the 1940s and 1970s out of reinforced concrete. Take a look at the ones that have been abandoned for 15-20 ye...

Re: Minnescraper Archive
I archived it. What I have is a 2.41 GB folder that mirrors the site. When I read it, I just open it in Chrome-- it's downloaded as HTML and associated images, ect, so there's no need to install any forum software and then add the database to it or anything like that (I don't have the database-- I j...

Re: East Metro Rail Capacity Study
Probably not an issue. There are plenty of similar mushroom/brewery caves/silica mines in the Twin Cities that pass beneath freight tracks and haven't had any problems. The Wabasha Street caves will be around for 500+ years regardless of anything short of a major earthquake. Not that Saint Paul give...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
So, they announced the public art grants. I'm pretty disappointed. Half of the artists are out of state, and one of the projects is a large suspended sculpture in the Great Hall. So we painted it ugly colors to match how it was historically, but we're going to hang a giant steel & glass sculptur...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development
Depends on how it's built. If it's drilled-- yes, our Saint Peter is great for subways and other tunnels. Cut and cover-- not so much.

I still think that the wonky shape of the building is a major downside to this project. I just can't get over their desire to make the most profitable building possible, even if it ends up shaped like some 2-year-old's attempt at a letter E

Yes, the Whole Foods space can't be stick-built, even if the rest of the building is. It isn't cheap to span the large distances needed to make the big open rooms in large commercial spaces with wood.

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
So from what I've been seeing it looks like they ended up deciding at some point not to build one of the 800ft commuter platforms up front and spent the money on restoring the "historic stair" and building a 300ft LRT platform. I guess the southern track of the southern commuter rail platf...

I don't think banning nasa is really appropriate. He's certainly not the only person on here slinging the mud and during all the years of Minnescraper he's shown that while he doesn't back down from his opinions, he knows where the boundaries are. I really don't think it would be fair to single him ...

Re: Bennet West and Center Blocks
I know I'm probably dreaming but how awesome would it be if that tan stuff in the render was that sexy limestone on target field? But probably it's concrete board. I really don't think it is. If you look at it closely you'll notice the silver channel-shaped spandrels... compare that to the facade o...
