Re: Roseville / Rosedale - General Topics
I haven't been to Rosedale in a while (thanks to the slobs that got the indoor dog walking canceled), but if I did, I'd just hit up Portillo's anyway.

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)
Having brought friends from Boston (where I currently live) and San Francisco to Minneapolis, they were flabbergasted at how a place with such little street life and so much empty space could be considered a major city. And the thing is, Boston and San Francisco aren't even that big. San Francisco ...

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)
Let them be misinformed. People's ignorance of the size and importance of the Twin Cities is annoying, but so is our insecurity about it.

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina
I wonder what "tough" means in that context (I don't have access to the article). Less demand, more expensive to build, the construction defect litigation law, etc.

They have menus (or example menus, technically) on their website now, so it's encouraging that they are listening to feedback.

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics
They were already in Eagan, a few miles away, so it's not surprising they would stay there if they could make it work. Plus, commuting to Midway from the suburbs would suck for many of their employees. Either of the downtowns would have been better fits; at least those have direct transit links. Mov...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
It would be great to have more office space, but I don’t know if the market could take it right now. Agreed. My gut feeling is that, while there will continue to be smaller companies that choose to locate downtown, we've seen all the big moves we're going to see for a while. By now companies have l...

It's also not an area where I would expect a high-end restaurant to do well (there are a number of good restaurants in the area, just not what I would consider fancy ones). I think they would have been better off leaning into the diner concept, personally.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
It's possible that it may enter into people's decisions over the long run. I was admittedly thinking more about the near-term -- people still need to commute, drive their kids around, etc.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
People probably won't use 62 instead, though. They will use the other streets that run parallel to the Parkway. I don't have an opinion on this proposal yet, but it wouldn't reduce the overall amount of traffic in the area, just redistribute it. Sure, the Parkway itself would be safer, but putting m...

Re: Hi-Lake - Minnehaha Mall (Target/Cub) - Downtown Longfellow
Well, one step that seems really obvious would be to put a menu on their website. I know, farm to fork/changing menu and all that, but similar places manage to do it, so they should too. Kind of sucks that they're stuck with the "Diner" part of the name due to the sign -- I thought they we...

Re: Stillwater Development News
I've never had an issue finding somewhere to park in Stillwater, even on busy days. Plus it can be easier to get in and out of the area if you don't park right off the main street anyway.

Shoot, Qdoba is in the same building and I'd take them over Rojo.Maybe they are closing because you can get better Mexican food as little as 3-5 minutes away?

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
It's already a PITA to turn left onto the parkway from Cedar much of the time, so I just go a block down and loop around onto Longfellow, then turn right onto the parkway.Make it annoying to go WB from Cedar. Get creative. Come on.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
I rarely stray into that corner of Minneapolis, and I'm loathe to provide cover for cars, but is there another good route through that area that isn't the parkway? It looks like Minnehaha Parkway and Lake Nokomis Parkway are the only streets that provide crosstown connectivity anywhere between 43rd...

Re: Subsidized and/or Affordable Housing
Man, at $375,000 per unit of affordable housing built, it sure seems like we could just buy up a bunch of NOAH and hold prices at an affordable level. CommonBond (a nonprofit focused on affordable housing) bought an apartment complex in Apple Valley for $16M three years ago. At 112 units, it came t...

Re: West End / Central Park West Development - St. Louis Park
There's usually plenty of parking in the MOA ramps on the upper levels, even if the roofs are closed off. It's not an issue unless it is very busy. It's not just an MOA thing, either -- at Mia, for example, people will fuss around with trying to park in the surface lot and ignore the garage that is ...

Re: West End / Central Park West Development - St. Louis Park
Fair points, and I agree people talk about surface parking as convenient. But it seems like people never talk about the advantages of covered parking? No scraping snow off your car, no excessive solar heating on a hot summer day, no tree blossoms or seeds (or minimal, if in an open-air ramp), no bi...

Well, why not, given the circumstances. It was very much a "Fine, here's the proposal, whatever" type of response. If I'm remembering correctly, they kinda let any city that was interested put their name down. Wouldn't want to hurt Ramsey's feelings, ya know?

Re: Nordic House - 729 Washington Av N
I'm not arguing against them. I don't have an opinion about them one way or another. But I know some cities have banned them or heavily restricted them, and that could happen here too (though there would still be a market for these as homes even if they couldn't be rentals).
