Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
I forget where--I'm pretty sure it came from someone close with the fire department--but I heard that the City may be looking to do something with that fire station development-wise. (Sorry for the incredibly vague post.) The City plans to renovate and expand Fire Station #1 in 2018. On the city's ...

Re: Health Sciences Education Faciity
Not sure about that yet. The assumption is that the current facility needs to be completely updated as well. It would certainly make for a more substantial lot to develop... This new structure has med and nursing in it... plus other medical degree programs. When I look at the plot it feels like it ...

Re: Health Sciences Education Faciity
My husband works at the school - a bunch of legislators toured the current space to learn about why the new building is necessary. This has a ton of momentum. Just out of curiosity, would you or your husband happen to know, TroyG, if there's been discussion of relocating the medical school library ...

Health Sciences Education Facility
The Dayton bonding proposal includes $100 million toward a new Health Sciences Education Facility that would replace the old VFW Cancer Research Center and connected Masonic Memorial Building at the corner of Harvard and Delaware streets on the East Bank campus. There's a long way to go between this...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Strange that they would be selling the Ramada lot first. I thought due to it's location it would be the harder of the 2 lots to sell. I have a hard time figuring that this will be residential, but with how close it is to Lund's, Hennepin, the CBD, and skyway access I guess it might make some sense....

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
This skyway will never be pretty, but my understanding is that the redesign of the plaza beneath the Washington Square building will include an external staircase linking the plaza to the skyway. That said, with a couple of notable exceptions, the skyways have always seemed made for those in the kno...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
The building kitty corner to this, the boarded up one, is owned by Ackerberg and is going to be renovated soon hopefully. On their website they state that they're searching for the right anchor tenant for offices. There are high ceilings, I think around 16-18 feet, in that building that would make ...

Re: 729 Washington Av N
Bassett Creek in the North Loop keeps popping up in conversations, but when you dig a little (pun intended) there's really no need, since in the North Loop the Creek no longer exists, even below ground. A couple of years ago, I had a conversation with a Council Member about whether Bassett Creek mig...

Re: Downtown East - Wells Fargo / Radisson Red / Edition Apt
I've noticed that most modern arched windows have the glass mounted flush to the surface, which detracts from the sense of strength conveyed by the arch. Of course, this is because in many cases the wall is thin and the arch is decorative rather than structural. Can recessing the window and faking t...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
Maybe it's just me, but I think this thing turned out just looking kinda evil. Like one of those videos where Star Destroyers are superimposed touching down in Los Angeles and Stormtroopers are invading. Sorta makes me shudder. This is what I wrote on this thread back in October of 2013: "Do y...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)
I'm wondering if K-Mart would be open to discussions about being part of a new mixed-use project on the SuperValu half of the block. The existing store could then stay open during construction. Of course, this assumes finding a developer interested, too, in such a project.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Nope, just maybe still up for sale. If someone has any news on it that'd be nice. As of last March, there was a proposal involving Community Housing Development for 140-150 units of workforce housing in a 5-7 story building on the block. Here's an article from the Strib about it: http://www.startri...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
With the demise of the old Star Tribune building imminent, I've been wondering about the window frame ornamentation on the main facade. It's very good and, I think, worth salvaging. Do any of you happen to know if there are plans for doing that, or is it just headed for the recycling bin?

Re: New House of Charity Building (7th & Park Ave S.)
There's such an immense shortage of affordable housing in easy reach of jobs that I would applaud rather than grump about this project. Also, the western side of the block is part of the stretch targeted for housing along Portland, presumably at market rate. That leaves another parcel open at the so...

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
Ok - looked at the proposed design fronting Nicollet again. Lots of glass fronting the Mall, but one entryway? Do these developers NOT read/listen to studies/experts on how to create a successful building design at the street-level in an urban environment? To be successful and to create an exciting...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
There are a couple things that could be added to make the map look a tad better: T3 and the proposed Greco development on Washington Ave. North, for example. But against this, if we want to feel even a bit sadder, how would this map look if we put in parking ramps, at least those that aren't a podiu...
