Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

We materialized thousands of extra riders a day in the Green Line, the A Line, and I'm sure it'll happen with other similarly urban route improvements. I'm not denying that current demand is low (though the 32 does sport 1,700 riders a day - just under half of what the 84 had prior to the aBRT treat...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

Well, chicken/egg and all that, but the 30 and 32 have 30 minute headways (60 off-peak for Rt 30). That makes it only good for a no-transfer trip, and even then.. I don't know, obviously the 21 has a huge legacy and the 2 is anchored by the U and both serve traditionally denser neighborhoods than N/...

Well, there's this, which would provide transit access for areas along the river as far north as 22nd Ave (walkshed included there) https://www.metrotransit.org/west-broadway-transit-study And then also this: https://metrocouncil.org/Transportation/Planning-2/Transit-Plans,-Studies-Reports/Highways-...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Whatever might have happened (you don't even seem too confident given your "word is" language), there is no way Target single-handedly killed a regional or county-wide transit sales tax. Regardless of whatever their role in that decision was, we ended up with CTIB just a couple years later...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Just to be clear: - Target actively lobbied hard for transit that an entire LRT alignment was chosen for their suburban campus - the type of location of jobs you're totally fine with for other companies you don't harbor ill will toward (in my memory, at least - and these are companies without anothe...

Re: Star Tribune

I'm.... not sure a significant number of people metaphorically peed their pants in response to that Strib post (or any other one)? Most people I know were bothered by the framing, which I disagree was 'straight ahead and factual' (more on that in a moment) but still subscribe to the Strib anyway. A ...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

The lanes are not 2 lanes wide, they are 15-16' wide with the buffers. I'd love for the facility to be at sidewalk level and only require 2' or so buffer to a parked car or thru-lane, and use the leftover 5-6' for boulevard space or whatever. We don't have that luxury as this is just a striping proj...

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W

I was going to try to make it, but it might be toward the tail end. Gonna push them to go with my vision for the Calhoun Square block :) In all seriousness, I'd like to see them push the envelope along Lake St given the surrounding context. It's too bad the Mozaic Phase 3(?) office building isn't co...

Fixing Grant's broken link: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/www/groups/public/@cped/documents/webcontent/wcmsp-204837.pdf Unless I'm missing something, this standard still applies to all exterior faces of a building: (4) Side and rear elevations. The exterior materials and appearance of the rear and...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Maybe the problem is that we keep throwing sweet deals at giant companies, like specifically choosing a LRT routing to meet a retailer's second HQ location in a suburb? Similar to the amount of money we collectively threw at the MOA (both in the 90s and again recently), we could make a solid argumen...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

So MNdible and David - what happens if/when the re-bid package comes back in 6 months with very little movement on costs? What gets cut? The tunnel in Kenilworth? Some stations? Bike bridges? The whole line? What's making us think that whatever requirements or bidding environment making what we got ...

(EDIT: this was responding to David's post a few up) I know you *get it* but your posts really make it seem like you don't. It's fine to nod your head in agreement with someone making a descriptive (vs normative) take that, yes, technically cyclists who break the law are putting themselves at risk. ...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

We're also somewhat beyond such a strong need for sightlines to retailers in the age of smartphones and Google Maps right? I know part of it is free advertising, branding, etc. But do customers really need to see a building sign to navigate there if they don't already know exactly where it is?

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots

I'm too lazy to really dig into it now, but if you include the rent from Thrivent while they build a new HQ, cut out $11.5M parking stall purchase (assuming that was part of the $55M purchase, previous articles made it seem like that was a separate amount), capital project savings at other buildings...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Given the route we chose for SWLRT, these two stations add relatively little cost to the line (up-front, travel time). My thoughts on a multi-modal connection are roughly the same as the transit transfer argument against the routing having significant benefit to the Northside: most transit routes (c...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

This is all so silly. Anecdotes are not data. They're helpful only to a point. I have indeed seen many cars in the last year driving the wrong way down a one-way, then make erratic decisions on when to turn given other traffic conditions. I have seen many cars stop at the light at 31st/Bryant then c...

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W

It's weird to have that piece be mostly about the viability of whether or not luxury apartments can sell here (and lol at that term shifting from how CP/etc usually use it to now mean the ultra-luxe). Like, I get it, purchased single-family homes are a different sub-market for folks beyond their 20s...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Not to pile on, but if the article is correct that it's **extremely common** for cyclists to be blowing the stop signs at the trail crossings (or anywhere else), isn't that enough predictability? If you see a bike approaching the same intersection you are, shouldn't the action be to proceed with cau...

Those twin towers are from the original Ryan proposal from like 2006, which happens to be very similar to what was built for Wells Fargo. Aren't you referring to the Van White Station that's part of the Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan , which is the station down on SWLRT now named Bassett Creek Va...
