Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
Is the residential component bowed/curved? It looks like it's probably just the cornice but I can't tell for sure.

Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.
I love the all glass-walled living room opening onto the angled balconies. It adds a dimension that effectively confuses my eye into believing it's not a basic box tower.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
Seriously just rode by this yesterday thinking i hope that Gardner stays open just a few more years. Then I saw it on loopnet last night and got a little sad. I hear you. I tried to patronize the store as much as I could when I needed anything they might stock. It's a bummer to lose retail like thi...

Re: Western Container Building - 500 3rd Street North
I rode by here earlier today and it sounds like there is some work going on. Saw one guy outside with the doors to the basement open working with a bobcat, and heard a bunch of pipe-clanging type noise on the upper floors. So...some things going on. But similar to amiller92, I doubt it was a big crew.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
Was in Gardner Hardware earlier today and they're closing up shop. Asked if they knew what was replacing the store and they didn't know. Said the building hadn't been sold yet.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Those warranties are important. I live in a boom era-condo that had insufficient windows and several construction defects. Ultimately everyone needed to buy new windows and the entire exterior of our building was replaced, since shoddy construction meant water was getting inside and rotting some of...

Re: Downtown East (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo / Radisson R
Five stories and they want surface parking between the hotel and the Wells Fargo building? Adding paint and some ivy, as proposed, will not save the awfulness of the huge blank concrete wall. A resoundingly disappointing proposal.

Re: 10th & Marquette Development
Amidst the excitement, you may have missed that the developers are petitioning the Planning Commission to allow them to use EIFS on this beauty [PDF]. The examples they provide are less than inspirational -- a rogues gallery of bad design. Oh, man. Not only will it make your building hideous it's o...

Re: Latitude 45 - (301 Washington Avenue South)
Today I noticed that they have started putting up the Formica fake wood on the 3rd st side of the building. They still are very slow with getting the rest of the siding up on this building. They started the siding/brickwork back in January, if not slightly before. Trouble getting the right material...

Re: Latitude 45 - (301 Washington Avenue South)
I wonder if there was/is an issue with getting materials on time b/c the pace for completing the outside doesn't fit.Great to finally see some brick veneer going up on the street sides of the building. This has been a terribly slow project to get completed.

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
If the river front towers from the recent past caused damage it is very believable this could/would inflict damage. At what point does it become the church's responsibility to reinforce its structure? Can they effectively block development for a five block radius? I'm asking rhetorically, of course...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
I really like the way the podium and tower appear to twist, separately, and in a way that coordinates with the odd shape of the parcel. Cheers! Also, the NIMBY church needs to sit down and accept the reality of being in a large metropolitan area; big things are built nearby and sometimes next door. ...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)
I think what it gets down to is that LPM is not at a "100% location", as they say in commercial real estate. It's not on the park, it's not on Loring Greenway, and it's not the skyway system. It may sound stupid, but if LPM was just 1.5-2 blocks closer to the core, or on the skyway system...

I initially agreed with that sentiment, but I walked around the site a few days ago and I think it's one of the worst. It looks remarkably cheap.^^^One of the best apartment projects in the North Loop.

That's a nice looking rendering. The variably spaced panels of glass add a lot of interest and prevent it from looking as basic and boxy as it otherwise could.

Re: The Eclipse
I fully understand Stanton's concerns but he needs to understand his primary motivations are not perfectly aligned with the City's. He cares about right now and completing a successful and profitable project. Nothing wrong with that but Minneapolis is appropriately taking a long-term view as well. H...

Takes a while to get through that but wow is it worth doing. It's obvious a lot of hard work and knowledge went into it, and the ideas are terrific.
