If you are referring to what I think you are, those are just temporary railings for the workers.I'm seeing some stick going up on the 2nd Street side now. It's on the 2nd level that rings the old parking structure.

Re: Park Vista (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)
I don't have a subscription so I can't read the article but the developer is adding to this proposal: "Developer Jim Stanton is adding units to Park Vista, his proposed new condo building near the Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis." http://finance-commerce.com/2012/08/stanton-adds-un...

Re: The Edge on Oak - (406 12th Avenue Southeast)
Specific Complaints: The Brick is not real brick, you can see the sections. The painted cement panels (are low quality construction) are painted two browns that go together awfully. The browns also don't get along with the Red trim, which may be it's best unique feature. It has the ugly AC Pack thi...

Re: The Edge on Oak
Come on. What is with this fake brick crap? You know we had brick buildings in the 1800's. Why would any developer want to make their building look like it was built 130 years ago? This is horrible. If I were Minneapolis I would pass ordinances that specifically ban new construction from using cert...

Also (caveat: I'm a layperson), it seems that there are concrete pillars being erected on top of the first two stories. So maybe this won't be stick-built. Here is an image from yesterday. You can see concrete pillars, albeit small ones, going up to what will be the third story. http://i561.photobu...

Old Minneapolis
Has anyone seen this Facebook page before? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Old-Minne ... 3278056856
It says it is "A place to share photos and memories of pre-October 18th, 1988 Minneapolis." What's the significance of that date?

True, but I think we'd all prefer this go up on a nearby vacant lot instead. That in and of itself isn't much to complain about. Just wishful thinking.I know some people might say the rendering looks boring or whatever but it will at least be a HUGE improvement over what is there right now.

That is pretty awesome. My wife is Malaysian and I've visited Malaysia many times. It would be cool to have something in Minneapolis that makes it stand out against other cities. This is the thing that will do that. Totally agree that we need some unique properties. I wonder how unique a 50-unit bu...

Re: Stick vs. Concrete Construction
Condos are difficult because to tear it down you have to buy every single person out, and none of them will be too happy that their "investment" is rotting out from under their feet and will demand exorbitant prices. Exactly. I'd be interested to hear a policy debate from well-informed pe...

Re: Stick vs. Concrete Construction
My gripe isn't so much with the fact that they're building with wood, but that the exteriors of these buildings tend to be on the ugly side. There is an overuse of concrete board and other bizzare materials, and the HVAC units are placed as an afterthought. I wish there was more thought put into th...

Smack shack at (I think) 605 Washington is moving along slowly, but it's moving along. They recently installed large green commercial/industrial style doors all around the side. From the looks of them they'll be opened when the weather is nice.

Thanks! That video was really helpful for me in picturing it all together. Also two links to videos,
1. This one cleared up my confusion as to how things stacked together. Despite being outdated it still gives some perspective:

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development
But just because round two of drilling has begun it should not be taken as an indication that the project is remotely moving towards the excavation/foundation stage. Who's to say that the underground conditions can even support a small footprint 36 story tower in that part of the city? I accept you...

Here's the original site plan, the new rendering looks almost exactly like the old ones. So this answers a lot of questions about what is where and what buildings are staying, the road, etc etc... Excited if they get started in the Fall! http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/public/@cped/document...

Not sure if serious...no one gives a damn about uninspired (and uninspiring) 5-6-story dreck -- and appropriately so.
build towers, or don't build at all. Let me repeat that: Build towers, or don't build at all.

Also, although it's hard to see much of the second building, I'm excited by the simplicity of both of these designs. Especially the single color brick one that would sit on Washington. This quote makes me want to put a big bear hug around Hines: "The project includes 3,000 square feet of retail...
