Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Also, as a daily bus rider, I wish they'd move the buses from the mall because the buses are painfully slow on the mall. It's quicker to walk from Nicollet and 7th to Hennepin and take the 6 than to take the 17 from Nicollet and 7th going to uptown.

Definitely nothing creepy about standing on the sidewalk taking pictures of girls you don't know in bikinis and posting them to the internets

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways
Free parking? You dont think someone pays for that parking? If I park on my property, I PAID for that property and am paying taxes on that property. Same goes for any store. The city or state and for damn sure, not your taxes, are paying for that parking. If a city pays a company to move to their c...

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways
Subsidizing one lifestyle over another seems pretty illiberal to me. Let alone subsidizing the one that is less sustainable and more damaging to the environment and public health. Criticizing subsidies for the pure fact that they're subsidies is hypocritical and, frankly, illiberal.

I don't know the exact ratio. Just illustrating the point. Do you dispute those things all favor the suburbs?

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways
Homeownership is higher in the suburbs than the city. Suburbanites drive more than city dwellers. Free parking is much more abundant in the suburbs than the city. These all are fairly obvious. A $10 subsidy to live in the suburbs with a $1 subsidy in the city is no different than a $9 tax on the city.

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways
Transit subsidies don't come anywhere close to making up for all the ways society subsidizes the suburbs. Sprawling highways and free parking are only a fraction of it. The home mortgage interest deduction, foreign wars to keep gas cheap, municipalities paying companies to move to the burbs, failure...

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways
Saying people should have to pay the full costs of their decisions is not punishing them. Subsidizing their decisions so they don't have to pay their true cost punishes people who don't make that decision yet still end up footing the bill.

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways
Make suburbanites pay the true costs of living in sprawl, and I wonder how many people would continue to do soAlthough make it too expensive to visit the city and I wonder how many people would find a job out in the suburbs rather than pay to drive in or move closer.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Working to try and change the minds of people whose minds are already made up is a waste of time. Let's worry about making it easy enough for people who want to bike but can't because of lack of infrastructure before we worry about converting the people who worship cars as cultural/status icons. So...

In before Matt's pic of cornfieldsAs far as serving density vs. running through a park, Bottineau is unarguably "less bad" than Southwest in that regard.

No, it doesn't.It has to even out some how.
You're right. You toll roads because sprawled infrastructure is not sustainable and because cars are harmful to the environment and public health. You dont just toll roads because your personal opinion doesn't want people driving.

You don't have to pay any tolls if you don't driveI really don't want to end up like the eastern states with toll rodes everywhere
