Re: Lake & Nicollet
I am not a lawyer, but I'd imagine that after the Kelo decision, it wouldn't be a big deal, legally, to just eminent domain it, especially given the greater infrastructure needs beyond just redevelopment. Politically, well, that's another story . . .

MPLS Speculation: Where will the next big tower be proposed?
Assume current proposals get built. Where do you see the next 25+ story development taking place in Minneapolis? My bet (and hope) would be the surface parking lots on Hennepin and 11th. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Hennepin+Ave+%26+11th+St+N,+Minneapolis,+Hennepin,+Minnesota+55403&hl=en&l...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Either way, I'm sure that NY firm will laugh at the comparisons to Grand Central.I didn't say that they don't have experience; I'm not suggesting that they're unqualified. I said that they're no more capable than any number of local firms to undertake this project.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Actually, I for one would WELCOME a greenhouse of sorts in highly public areas that could be enjoyed during the coldest winter months -- kind of a retreat from winter by stepping through a door! They could do this with the skyways as well and/or incorporate it into an indoor swimming area where you...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
Since there's a thread for discussion about our skyway system. Let me ask this very talented, knowledgeable & imaginative membership of urbanmsp a question. If you had an opportunity to have a 15-minute meeting with a developer who was planning a tower(s) in the downtown core of Minneapolis. Wh...

Re: 1001 Nicollet - New Target Building
Meh I don't mind letting people play this broken record. For the amount of sway that Target has on things in Minneapolis, they should not be expanding their operations in the burbs. Hopefully the employees getting transferred out of downtown throw a fit and Target realizes that the top younger talen...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
You might be able to time it in between the regular runs if you have a bunch of switches between the two sets of tracks, but you'd probably need a third set of tracks along most of the route to make it practical.I don't know how you could even run express trains along side the regular runs.

Re: Central Corridor LRT
I'm very disappointed that there won't be express trains, at least during peak hours, that will take you downtown to downtown in under 20 minutes. That said, I expect this line to be even more successful than the Blue Line (Hiawatha). It's connecting a lot of areas that do and will highly utilize pu...

Never realized that. Thanks! It's there on the desktop version, but hiding in plain sight -- you have to click the orange link icon just to the left of the thread title. If you mouse over it, there should be a popup saying "View first unread post".

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
The positives of the climate controlled skyways matter to me more in the summer than the winter actually! You can always get a good pair of galoshes and heavy wool coat for the winter, but the professional downtown workers who need to be in a suit are saved from the humidity and heat that you can do...

Re: Mobile Version?
Would it be possible for the mobile site to get those little orange icons next to new posts in threads? It's just a minor annoyance, but when I click on the "New Post" link, it tends to take me a while to figure out which entries I have and haven't read yet. It should take you directly to...

Re: Bottineau LRT
If we can't get the Southwest line going, with all the moneyed-support for it, I don't see how we'll ever come close to getting the Bottineau line going with the political mess that any of it's routings will be.

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
The issue in this project is the devoloper does not share the same values or concerns that many people in this area find important. The Wedge and Whittier are two of the most liberal neighborhoods in Minneapolis. It is ( for the Twin Cities) highly urbanized and pedestrian oriented, with many peopl...

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
but people who shop at TJ's drive in and drive out contributing NOTHING to the neighborhood except for traffic. Their building design confirms this. I live in the area and would walk to shop at Trader Joes all the time. I'd probably shop there almost exclusively for groceries. TJs will be a HUGE am...
