Here are the selection criteria: Business Development Capital Projects Grant Program applications will be evaluated on the following criteria: • Creation of new full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs, retention of existing jobs, or improvements in the quality of existing jobs as measured by wages, skills o...

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System

Yeah, New Orleans' streetcars have their own lanes as well, but motorists there tend to use them as their own private slip lanes (while the pedestrians and cyclists use them as a walking or biking path). But I'm assuming Minnesotans will act more like Clevelanders than New Orleanians, so it probably...

Also, why would they have a stop at the industrial park in the crotch of 94/494/694 instead of Radio Dr? The latter appears to have more jobs/residents.

Re: Gateway Corridor

Is there really a difference between a freeway-running transit service and one that runs on a frontage road? Other than that the freeway-running service is much faster.

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System

Cleveland's Health Line really seems to stretch the meaning of the term rapid transit - 30 stations in 6.8 miles is impossible to serve rapidly. Metro Transit's arterial transitways - which they're not claiming to be rapid transit - are planned to have fewer stops per mile than that, although we'll ...

Re: 330 South 12th

What about Sheridan in NE on Broadway and University? A far more attractive art deco school.
I stand corrected on both counts, although I'd say Century Plaza was quite attractive before it was Century Plaza (and still has some charm).

Re: 330 South 12th

I was just talking over the county facility with my brother and we still can't figure out what is so special about the building that some people are so offended by taking it down. It really isn't that special or significant. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's precious...just look at me, I thin...

Re: Park and Portland

Do you really think that the people who showed up at that meeting fairly represent the broader public opinion? Were you at the meeting? I haven't finished compiling a SQL server database of the sign in sheets yet, but there appeared to be quite a few people who actually live on the affected portion...

Re: Park and Portland

Good for them, but it's not a very good representation of what most people would like to see. Wow, you're very lucky that you were the one that "most people" chose to tell their opinion to. Actually there were lots of people at the meeting who claimed to live on Park and Portland, and alm...

Re: 330 South 12th

It's been altered extensively... http://collections.mnhs.org/visualresources/VRDbimages/pf093/pf093576.jpg ...but that doesn't mean it couldn't be restored. This is a WPA structure, and one of the city's handful of Art Deco buildings. If every rundown structure was demolished instead of rehabbed, th...

Re: 330 South 12th

It would be tragic if we lost the remnants of this historic structure. Minndianapolis is generic enough - we need to preserve anything that offers distinction to the urban fabric. I'm going to ask my county board member how she can justify spending my tax money on a strategy for destroying our histo...

Re: 815 2nd Street Apartments

According to the Strib, they bought a "one-acre parcel" (not sure if that's a precise figure). I'm assuming they're shrinking the units quite a bit, then, since Soltva only had 4 two-bedrooms from what I can tell.

Re: 815 2nd Street Apartments

I'm curious to see how much of the parking lot they're buying. The parcel itself is 3.38 acres, but that includes the fueling station. Soltva was 100 units on 1.04 acres, so to build 138 units at the same density, they'll need about 1.5 acres. Of course, they may not be building at the same unit den...

Re: Northern Lights Express

Thanks Mulad for those details. I have no idea where I dreamed up those numbers in my earlier post. You seem like you'd know better than to compare inter city to intra city rail. Realistically policymakers need to be able to compare different types of service and different modes. Farebox recovery ra...

Re: Northern Lights Express

I think Duluth has a pretty good transit system. It has much better coverage than Metro Transit, and the frequency on the line between downtown and West Duluth is really good - I've used it for bus trips lots of times, and I don't think it would be too scary for someone who took a train in the first...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)

The little wrap-around extension was just an unnecessary square-foot grab on the part of the developer Or it is a way to reinforce the street wall, step down to the height of the adjacent house, and provide a sense of enclosure to the area behind the building. What would you rather be built there? ...

Great idea for a thread, Mulad. I'd add that most of the counties around here have GIS sites with parcel data. Here's the link to Ramsey County's, which I actually like better than Hennepin's, although it's not as easy to use: http://maps.metro-inet.us/RamseyCoGIS/CXviewer.htm Minneapolis' Property ...
