Plaza del Sol

The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is undertaking a $10M rehab of 990 Payne Ave, currently known as Plaza del Sol. Interior work is set to begin in two weeks, and the entire project is slated to open in early 2025. Once finished, the space will house five or six restaurants, a commercial ...

Re: Nicollet-Lake - greater Kmart area

They are putting the concrete barriers and fencing back up around the precinct again. Really sad to see, anyone know why?
Massive protests are expected across the US due the Memphis police's killing of Tyre Nichols after the video is released later this evening.

Re: Union Flats- 1509 Marshall Ave

Marshall from Snelling to Hamline is such a sad sight. I hope this helps because it probably can't make it any worse.
It is a rather forlorn stretch of light industrial. I'm hopeful this will inject more life into that area.

I live near this spot, and I hope it goes in. NIMBY discussion will ultimately revolve around affordable housing (read: anti-gentrification) and a few folks will wonder about parking.

Re: Downtown Parking

The Victory Ramp in downtown St Paul is a good example of a mixed-use ramp. From south to north, there's a little bodega, ramp entrance, small print shop, ramp exit, and a restaurant. It's the only ramp around that I find doesn't completely suck the life out of the block.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

St Paul's population peaked in 1960 when it had 313,411 residents; the low point was 1980, when the number dipped to 270,230. I bet much of that dip was smaller household sizes after children grew out of the house. I think you're right. Average household size in 1960 was almost 3.5 people; today it...

Re: East of Pascal, West of Lexington, north of I-94

I haven't been by there lately. What is that land currently being used for? From what I can remember, nothing.
Ostensibly it's used for parking as they are paved, marked lots. But in my five years in Frogtown, I've never seen Target's parking overflow all the way to University.

I can't get past the name: "rana" in Spanish is "frog," so this sounds like Frogtown to me.

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant site

Talinsday, I think you're right. Still, the dreamer in me wishes the City would withhold a couple of blocks with lot-size limits to allow for a unique, modern infill akin to the great commercial strips of old. Can you imagine a three-block stretch with four to eight small-scale buildings on either s...

I know what you mean, min-chi-cbus. Anything that disrupts the status quo garners a flurry of worried questions from the local culture, and the press report more on the man-on-the-street level, and less with the bigger picture in mind.
