Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
Baby BRT aka aBRT aka arterial transit. Bus with proof of payment fare system (like lrt), 1/4 - 1/2 mile stop spacing, improved shelters with a shared ROW. It's currently under study by met council and could be implemented on Snelling and W7th by the the time the Green Line is operational

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
The vociferous anti-streetcar folks should consider two things. First, a real plan for a streetcar on this route would create true momentum (not the idle chatter of the past 10 years) for re-connecting Nicollet at Lake Street. Second, is there any evidence (studies, examples from personal experienc...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Emanuel Housing is not a homeless shelter. I was going to just put "shelter" but thought that was simpler. Your average condo buyer probably isn't going to differentiate. There are two condo buildings on the same block as PSP. If you're going make a map and then project your own personal ...

The 203 and 204 delivery didn't catch our attention (or isn't interesting). 204 is sitting north of the Franklin maintenance facility.

The two cars that were to be delivered in December aren't here. Deliveries/production behind schedule?

Re: Green Line (Central)
Adding the much needed Hamline, Victoria and Western stations was a very complicated and lengthy process. See: http://dcc-stpaul-mpls.org/content/chronology-stops-us-campaign There is quite a gap between Fairview and Raymond but an intermediate station is really not needed. East of prior is too clos...

Re: Subsidized Housing
Good article. I like the housing credit idea. Eighteen percent of rent, mortgage and property tax maxed out at $3000. Throw in a very gradual phase out between $100k and $200k of income. Not likely to happen but such a policy change would be a boon to Minneapolis. Nasa's friends in the trades would ...

Re: Dight Ave
Me thinks there might be a few areas where public works could better spend the money ($5k+?) required to make such a change. I like Longfellow Avenue but that's already in use. Maybe Calhoun Avenue to erk the do gooders in SW and mess with suburbanites who plug Calhoun into their GPS.

Re: Sears
I seriously doubt 250+ people would pay the kind of rent required to make two or more 10 story apartments at all financially feasible. Not at Marion and University. Private developers are not willing to risk six story stick construction downtown. I love the Sears proposal even if the phase three res...

Re: Green Line (Central)
Uptownsport seems to attract more drug dealers than an all night rave party at Charlie Sheen's house. He can't walk through downtown without being offered drugs and regularly witnesses drug transactions on the 94 and 21. I've heard criminal records discussed a few times but have never witnessed a dr...

Freight rail companies stridently defending their turf isn't news. SLP rail opponents are in no way validated.

I've been wondering if Nasa's opinions re six story versus high rises and light rail have changed recently. Thanks for reminding me, I almost sent you a PM.

Re: Urban/Suburban Lifestyle
Construction in exurbia has basically halted and there remains a large number of foreclosures that have to be worked through for there ever to be new homes built there again. I seems we're seeing upper end housing built in fourth ring suburbs like Medina and Chanhassen but none of the $100,000-$150,...

The sad fact remains that 95%+ of its employees do not commute to downtown via mass transit, so they WILL need a place to park their cars. The non-automobile mode share for downtown commuters is much higher than 5%. I can't find a link right now in the bathroom but don't like a third of downtown co...

Re: Subsidized Housing
The "market" simply can not provide adequate housing for low income individuals. Ringing up Target purchases all day or cleaning hotels does't pay well enough to provide adequate, humane housing for an individual much less any dependents. Now, there are probably problems with how housing p...

Um, no. My low income neighbors haven't been a problem and are good people. I would fully support another low income development on the R5 zoned land behind my home. Especially if the same developer/management company is involved. It would be an improvement over the existing buildings and certainly ...

Re: Bon Quartier Apartments
I share a block with several low income housing properties, including a 35 unit low income apartment building. I haven't noticed any police activity associated with my low income neighbors. If there were 105 calls a year I'd probably get pretty frustrated. I guess my point is I agree with ne homer. ...
