Re: Northern Lights Express

Route 16 was slightly reduced after the Green Line opened once Metro Transit saw how riders were getting around on University. If more people are choosing Northstar over the bus then reduce bus service. Route 16 wasn't "slightly reduced"; it was dramatically cut. The 50 was completely eli...

Re: Northern Lights Express

As much as RCRRA thinks St. Paul is equal to Minneapolis, those services would do far better by stopping at SPUD, but through-routing to Minneapolis and terminating at Target Field would be best.
You know I agree. But I doubt that will happen.

Re: Northern Lights Express

It also struck me as surprising that they didn't preserve that space for a larger terminal station, but in their defense, the chance that a huge renaissance of trains travel to the north and west of Minneapolis at a scale that needs more than the remaining space is pretty low. Most potential future ...

Re: Northern Lights Express

Yeah, they were going to put a beautiful glass hall over the tracks on the North side of fifth. I think "phase two" legitimizes it too much; it was in the renderings for the original Interchange proposal, but not funded, and frankly we'd need to see much higher ridership on the lower track...

I give him credit for responding to your request. Although in terms of making Lake St. friendly and safe I dislike the Lake Street station I wish the project the best and hope it is a success.

Just got my passport card in the mail yesterday, so this is officially not my concern any more. Ah, the horrors of a national ID card that's universally recognized and fits in your pocket.

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars

It still makes me worry that they will scrap Midtown LRT for something like this. Midtown LRT should be built, 13 min crosstown would be a major improvement.
I strongly agree. This sort of thing is a great straw man for killing real investment.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

Note too that Siemens even markets the S70 as a streetcar, and highlights it as such on their website: https://www.siemens.com/global/en/home/products/mobility/rail-solutions/rolling-stock/trams-and-light-rail/light-rail-vehicles-north-america.html The "Streetcar" version is 79 feet long, ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

Isn't the "beauty" of a streetcar system that you don't have to do as much prep for laying rails. The cars are much lighter than LRT and there should not be the need to move any underground utilities. They should be able to do the line in considerably less time than an LRT line with less ...

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?

I just saw this discussion. Surely there aren't people who've paid so little attention to the Olympic bidding process as to think it's a good idea to submit an Olympic bid, are there?

Re: Mass transit construction costs in the United States far higher than what European countries pay for comparable proj

Note that our two extensions are only mentioned once, together, for their per-mile cost of $120 and 130 million, as an example that it's very broad. All the other references to "Green Line Extension" in the article are to Boston's Green Line Extension.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

But is that really rail bias or just good transit bias? If the bus stops here had as clear of information as light rail stops, were big enough for both shelters and enough room to board, were long enough for the bus to pull up to the curb (a big pet peeve of mine), were spaced properly, and weren't...

Just say you're a non-traditional student. Or more likely you don't have to say anything - the University has plenty of students older than 22.

I tried Num-mi on Wednesday as was really disappointed. I'd been hoping this was a replacement for Bun Mi, but it's not anywhere near that. The bread was good, but the ingredients were meh, lacking flavor and not having a very good combination of vegetables. Another member of our group tried their P...

Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting

So, for a neophyte, why would one want a static vs dynamic IP? If you want to run services on your home system that are reachable from other places, you need to be able to know the address - and knowing it won't change makes that way more likely. For example, you can't (generally) map a domain name...
