Wow. Weird addition. I'm not a fan. Such awkward proportions, and aesthetic.

Re: Harlem Irving and CA Ventures - 240 Hennepin Ave - 18-20 stories
Sweet!
I was also not really feeling the 2 story portion at Washington but it's growing on me now. The view in the packet looking southwest kind of sells it for me. Looks nice coming into downtown especially if the gateway tower will be right on the corner.

Re: Crime
Based on the statements in the article I'd hardly suggest this is a hoax.I wonder if they decided they just wanted a more premium location and this was a way to trigger a clause to kill the existing lease? Cynical perhaps, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some truth to this.

Re: Crime
Interesting how much you know about their profitability. I think it's great, and something more business should do before claiming that neighborhoods or development or lack of parking or crime or anything else caused them to close. It's great to see a business being proactive. The article could be r...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
It appears from project documents that the 35th, 36th, and 42nd Street bridges across 35W aren't going to be reconstructed as part of the current massive project. Does anybody have any sense as to why? Sure seems like you'd take care of these while everything else is messed up. Those bridges weren'...

They're actually pretty cool and interesting... almost every proposal for the river first design challenge maintained the industrial infrastructure for whatever reason.

Re: West Elm Hotel & Condos - 102-120 1st Street N
Hey, look, another example of historic district guidelines making things worse! Honestly, just a cornice would make a big difference here. It's hard to see in small renderings but there is a graduated brick cornice, reminiscent of the gothic inspired details of other buildings in the neighborhood. ...

Re: West Elm Hotel & Condos - 102-120 1st Street N
Yeah, not that they should repeat themselves, but I think the Spoonriver building that they show in the packet, designed by the same firm, has a more appropriate material palette for this location. The Spoonriver building being right next to it really makes the point. Aside from palette (which I th...

Re: West Elm Hotel & Condos - 102-120 1st Street N
At first I really thought maybe turning the "U" shaped opening towards the street would be an improvement but then I don't think that really represents the north loop genuinely. Show me a historic building in the neighborhood that has a U shape much less one facing the street. Every major ...

Has anybody figured out what the future potential graphic is in this?
Is it suggesting that the offices could be expanded on top of the ramp next door? Or that it's for private development?
It just has that with no real explanation.

Re: West Elm Hotel & Condos - 102-120 1st Street N
I really love the design. That Maganese brick is always much more rich in reality than renderings and drawings. I think the accent color on the balconies and retail bays is genius - basically the amalgamation of the Chicago brick tones throughout the neighborhood. It's geometric and a bit bulky, but...
