Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
So far I've heard: "...colocation is a non-starter..." and "...moving the bike trail is a non-starter..." Can someone please say that freight rail in SLP is a "non-starter" so that we can complete the trifecta? Everything is a non-starter to someone. That's why any dis...

Re: Southdale Center - Edina
Weird to have cast-in-place concrete (or CMU) elevator cores that are built full height ahead of any other construction if you assume that the building is too tall to be stick framed. Residential is very rarely steel construction, so that leaves concrete construction. It could be all precast constr...

Re: Southdale Center - Edina
Not necessarily weird at all to have tall elevator shafts. Not sure what "tall" means...the total height of the building? Partial height? Typically shafts are used as "shear walls" to resist lateral forces in a building so the height of a shaft could be determined by that. They m...

Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
What's the deal with placing the walk-in-closets behind the bathrooms in the larger layouts? I'd rather go through a closet/dressing room to reach the bathroom, especially since the 'stool' is not in a separate enclosure. Interesting. It seems like every developer/management team sees this issue a ...

Re: Southdale Center - Edina
Nope. If it is over 6 stories, it is steel framing or post-tension concrete - not wood.

Re: The Eclipse
"Wait, I thought this would be built across from 222?"
*zing*
Now that I've given proper credit for a funny cheap shot, now is the time for "us" to chime in with opinions is the point.

Re: The Eclipse
RE Renderings/Aesthetics: Look no further than Stonebridge. There are recent photos on that thread that give you the whole palette for these images of Eclipse. It is *possible* (likely) that the architect/developer just said, "Grab the palette from Stonebridge and slap that on the buildings for...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
This CAN'T be as simple as "relocate/elevate the bike trail, colocate the rail and <bang> problem solved." I've seen this idea in various posts...obviously the bikers will be unhappy and there is cost involved with additional bike infrastructure but the cost must be relatively low compared...

Re: The Eclipse
I think the responses here regarding the massing are interesting. I agree with some of the comments regarding the phasing being reversed to what it should be (more prominent corner FIRST). More importantly though, the bigger issue for me is the bulk and the relative proximity to the other phase. If ...

Re: The Eclipse
I'd be very surprised to see the massing change. Devs don't go to CoW unless they have a building that works for their pro forma. There are financial reasons why the old scheme got scrapped. If that worked in the current market, he wouldn't have paid the architects to draw a completely new building....

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
@David Greene: Sorry, I'm confused. Go back and read my last post and show me where I insulted you. I have NEVER called you stupid or personally attacked you - I don't have time, energy or interest in "ad hominem" attacks. I started my post by complimenting the posters for being informed a...

Re: West Calhoun Apartments - (3118 West Lake Street)
I've been advocating for creating some kind of political body from urbanmsp on various threads. I've heard a few people go to Planning Commission or Z & P or City Council meetings but it's just not enough. The NIMBY's are winning right now and it is because they are a loud minority (in my opinio...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Wow. I am really impressed by the attention and time spent on becoming informed on this issue. With that said... Credentials, bona fides, details, who went to what meeting... Use. Common. Sense. Density + Transit = win Desolation + Transit = failure Again, look at the Google Earth images from where ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Thank you to all, including those I don't agree with. I vigorously disagree with David Greene about almost every point (more on this in a moment). To get right to the heart of the issue, I reject the ridership numbers for Uptown. I've seen various comments to this effect but a simple application of ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I've said all this before... *Thanks for humoring me and repeating. - It will spur development at Van White. *Wow. Is there a study that backs this up? There is VERY little over here other than the Farmer's Market, a small trade school, and almost no established residential density other than maybe ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
@mplsjaromir: "The cost difference is much more than twenty million." Conceded and I'm being a *bit* obtuse to make the point. I understand it's "more" but I'm looking at it holistically as Nick and @Viktor Vaughn point out - I'd rather look long term and spend "more" o...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Sorry but I tuned this out a while back when it seemed that the route had been decided through Kenilworth. I've only now gotten interested again with the controversy. It seems that "3C" is considered DOA. Can anyone point me to a statement or link from Met Council or other that says why &q...
