Re: Stadium Village

I'm curious about this Minneapolis idea that signage on buildings is bad. Like, it's a common feature of towers around the world. What is the problem?

This one at 715 Lowry Ave NE is also interesting. 7 units, 3 stories. True missing middle.

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics

People who note that a lot of the new developments in Minneapolis are studio – 2 bedrooms, except near the U, are not wrong. And to a large extent it is true that a larger number of smaller units are more profitable.

But ... we're getting redevelopment of this form, rather than infill townhouses ...

Construction has started on the Malcolm Yards apartments. It was kinda cold, so I didn't grab a photo, but will do so soon.

Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?

With respect to the Franklin/East River Road/27th fustercluck, the situation is that in 2008/9 the county/city/park board studied things, and there were some truly insane things proposed like a two-lane roundabout, and significant engineering to cantilever the bike trail under the Franklin bridge ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

I guess this whole situation is summed up by the phrase: they're in a hole and they're keeping on digging (and asking more money and time to do it)

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

Obviously it would be a huge embarrassment and our legal/planning system makes it even more time consuming ... but would be really curious if it would in an engineering sense just be quicker to stop the digging, refill it, take out the townhomes, and build at grade with signals to control the ...

Re: Calvary Church re-development

Opening the packet (or Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/JKHnt1VPvavtZdLm6) it looks like the housing in the "church" is actually in the shorter to the right not in the taller worship space.

Yeah, agreed, Northeast has lots of room for this to occur. I kind of get it with churches and their large ...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

My one concern is that the continuous median (mostly good) blocks turns not only into driveways, but also some streets. This is necessary to keep left turners from blocking all traffic and I understand that. The concern is that weird angles and one ways on side streets will make it almost ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Huge difference between lots of single track, and one point. And if they were willing to consider the radical railroad operation idea of ... checks notes ... signaling and switches they could double track it on the surface, and do the co-location idea. We are, after all, talking about at most a few ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Probably too late to abandon the tunnel idea, and lay the rail on the surface.

We are spending more than $100 million dollars on this tunnel to avoid either
* a short section of dedicated single track operation for the LRT, or
* having freight rail share track in the same direction no more than ...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Maybe I'm too cynical, but thinking things through doesn't really seem to have been a huge part of the Minneapolis approach to executing a network of safe biking streets. They literally reconstructed 15th Avenue SE 3 years ago, including curb reconstruction, and didn't put in a protected bikeway then.

Re: MSP Airport

One thing that will help the flight is that connecting from Europe via Dublin you do US clearance there. Not as big of a deal flying into MSP to avoid immigration as other places, but a nice thing to get out of the way.
