Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Skyrab and John might just be on to something - something big, something out of the box size-wise and, yes, something potentially iconic. A 50-story hotel, residential, complex might not be so far fetched after all. Five years ago, Marriot partnered with The Ritz Carlton to build a 50-story building...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)
How is it that our so-called competitors such as Denver, Indianapolis, San Antonio, Seattle, can build these types of world class hospitality assets, swiftly and seemingly effortlessly, while even the most mundane Minneapolis development projects get bogged down in NIMBY and other myopic bureaucrat...

Re: Dock Street Apartments - (333 Washington Avenue North)
The amenities of the coming Interchange, the great nightspots of the NL, game-day excitement in the neighborhood, expanded green space, prospects of a new downtown school, the potential for true high-speed Zip Rail and the added security of having the transit police headquarters at it's core, combin...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Here's an opportunity for the Wilfs to do a world of good for the image of themselves and the Vikings organization by ponying up enough money to cover the overages on the signature doors and other significant design elements. The Wilfs implied the elimination of a retractable roof would save enough ...

Re: Orchestra Hall
National embarrassment! Really! The leaders backing the lockout of the musicians must be held to account for costing our Minnesota artists the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall and should for the deliberate inaction which forced out our world class maestro. Check out the article that was on yeste...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
Speaking of Riverplace and by extension St. Anthony Main, I've gotta believe, with the success of The Phoenix and Mill & Main, it's only a matter of time before the complex is revitalized. Loved the good old days back in the mid 80s when both places were hopping. The area population should be ab...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Ah, the Nicollet, what could have, should have been.
Alas, I remember getting a postcard with the Nicollet glistening in the Minneapolis night skyline. It was a stunner that would have added so much the architectural signature of the city and south end of the mall.

Re: Target Center Renovation
It's beyond time to get started with the renovation. However, I have a hunch, real work will not begin on this until after the MLB All Star Game at neighboring Target Field, to avoid the area being at the eye of a construction zone. Too bad, lost opportunity to put our best face forward to the natio...

Re: Shapco Printing Site - (524 Fifth Street North)
Bringing 1,100 workers into this area would be great for the existing restaurant, bar and residential businesses, in addition to expanding LRT ridership. But my read of the article makes completion of this sound 50-50 at best. By next March, we should know definitively. The only silver lining, I see...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
For a major development that has not officially be approved by the lead tenant, it's impressive how far along and detailed the design work seems to be. The Summer 2016 deadline for completion of the four buildings (2 towers & 2 parking lots) and The Yard is going to result in a massive construct...

Re: Soo Line Building Apartments - (501 Marquette Avenue)
Yeah, David, I'm a homeowner, too. My wife and I teamed up to pay off the mortgage our little house down near Lake Nokomis, and our 3-year-old loves being able to step outdoors without much ado. I even like the gardening when I can dig up time for it (pun intended). I'm just trying to put myself in...

Re: Shapco Printing Site - (524 Fifth Street North)
I, too, am a big fan of the proposed, 20-plus-story, glass-clad Hines tower. The height and modernity it would bring to the area adjacent to The Ballpark and Interchange would add much needed architectural diversity to this burgeoning neighborhood. But like others, I welcome this development and it'...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Since this whole section of DTE will be a massive construction zone starting next January, why not simply grade both Portland and Park Avenues so they slope below the park, creating two tunnels. Doing so would allow the The Yard to be built as a contiguous Ultimate Park, without interrupting north/s...
