Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
talindsay hit the nail on the head. This line more than any other would be a symbolic line and show that the area is committed to investing in transport. That has to count for something. And the idea of a pedestrian and streetcar only nicollet mall downtown certainly brings a smile. While we are at ...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)
27 Sold already!!! and 7 on hold. Sounds pretty healthy to me! Wow being 1/4 sold as they have barely broken ground seems pretty impressive given the lack of any recent condo developments in the area. Shows that there is still a demand. I have a feeling that this will remain the only condo project ...

Re: Downtown Retail News
I think an awesome addition would be an urban REI store. Portland just got an REI where they rehabbed a building in their downtown area and made it LEED platinum. I think they would do very well and if they added the climbing part like the majority of their stores have, that could definitely become ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Minneapolis in general is relatively progressive when it comes to architecture. I hope hope hope that they make a statement with their design. I have a horrible gut feeling that it will look like a normal bland stadium. I just want them to go crazy with it.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
They need to make a real time app for smart phones that shows the arrival times at all of the stations. Maybe right now not a huge deal, but in the future as they add more lines, or if you are transferring it would be nice to see a real time update and know before you even get off your bus or street...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I would assume that for the construction company to be chosen, there would have to be some sort of bid process. So that means that there are some preliminary designs floating out there? When are the elevations or at least a rendering going to be released?

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I don't think they would do that right away - but could happen at some point. I'm not sure what all is involved with changing over an apartment to condos - but would think it is a lengthy process - first you have to let all the leases expire and give people ample time to move out, etc. So I'm guess...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I would love to have someone in Minneapolis with the balls to get a world-renowned artist to do something to it... like the artist ROA or some local peopleMinneapolis has a lot of cool murals. The garbage burner looks like a good blank canvas for a new one.

I know nothing has been approved or announced, but what is everyone's best educated guess for when we may see the first streetcar rolling down a minneapolis street (or greenway)?

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but I have a gut feeling that by the time this project is complete, with all the other apartments that are coming available around the same time and the lack of new condo development that they dont just turn this into condos right away. I know that the ori...

Re: Downtown Office Market
On the subject of TCF bank, it is a strong regional bank with a lot of locations in minnesota and chicago, and I know they have offices in Colorado as well. They seem to me to be primed to be bought out by a larger bank who either wants to expand into this market, or to get rid of a main competitor....

Re: Shakopee Rail?
Question: would another line seriously be run to the interchange station? Or would the most likely (and cost effective) answer be to end the rail at say an Eden Prairie station where people can transfer to the LRT network? People are already freaking out about a LRT line running through their neighb...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
I know we technically should not build public transport for "infrequent" or "visitors" because you cannot accurately rely on those fares, but clearly a streetcar would increase ridership with those groups. Does it matter? Maybe not. But making your city more enticing to use publi...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
It seems, from my lack of noticing any, that hotels are sorely lacking in rather popular parts of town. North Loop, Old St Anthony/St Anthony Main, Uptown...Whittier does at least have the city's hostel. I know that from living there for almost a month because apartments fell through after getting ...

Re: Minneapolis Armory
For anyone who has ever been to Columbus, Ohio, there is another very successful year-round market called the North Market. I think something like that would flourish in minneapolis. Especially as the population downtown increases and the proximity to the light rail line

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
A while back I heard the greenspace was going to be 2 blocks in size. Not sure if that is still the case or if it was just talk. I would like to see some sort of focal point in it. I think that creating a new "famous" or popular/iconic/photographic site would bring people to the park. Gian...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I bet some of the other people here who have experience with companies can chime in, but it seems like banks historically can get around some of those issues. They develop office space, then sell to a developer in exchange for a long-term lease. Thus they finance space, and they get to benefit from...

Re: Why not Monorail? and transit / Elephant accidents.
Where would you propose this monorail system out of curiosity? A loop around downtown minneapolis with stations in the skyway level? It would be nice to connect places like the metrodome light rail station, the new main station by the twins stadium, the convention center etc. I think a fixed transpo...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)
I disagree with everyone who thinks that this would be a tall building. First of all, the majority of hotels are squat- large footprints and not about height. I imagine it is easier to maintain so many rooms in a shorter building. It also costs much more to build a taller building obviously. If you ...
