Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
there is the political/diplomatic angle to consider as well. If suburbanites don't feel they have a stake in transit, why would they support spending money on it? Really well said. Everyone wants to be in on the party. Issue is that there are so many commercial nodes around town it makes it difficu...

Re: Saint Paul streetcar study
^ Would they make that route a direct DT St Paul to Uptown line with a transfer to go up snelling? Or you think it would be a forced transfer at snelling as the "midtown" line would end there?

Re: Open Streets
In the most positive light, they are being rude. They are using an existing event/organization as a platform to promote their own ideas. Sure they have free speech, and they have a right to be on a public road. But they didn't go through the hassle of raising the money, getting the permits, plannin...

Re: Mozaic
After reading the vague design points- 3 buildings going E-W. Northernmost building 3 stories, middle is 6 and southernmost building 8 stories. I hope it's not just 3 flat-sided rectangles. Especially from the south looking north, all you would see would be the broad side of an 8 story office buildi...

Re: Rampton Apartments - (201 2nd Avenue Southeast)
Can I just say that this may be my favorite project in town? I just mean from the stance of covering up a ramp and the creativity of it all. These are the types of projects we need in the future.

Re: Mozaic
Sounds promising and I second the opinion that the building massing in the second phase should be smaller than the behemoth first. Also, so many of the developments in Uptown now are so large (1/2 block at least) it's nice for some variety. On the hotel side, I think that a smaller boutique hotel wo...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
The trend for vacancy rates downtown is extremely promising and all developers know that. For all we know, some out of town developer has a project in the works already. They know it takes almost 2 years for a project to fully come on line. However, lenders and developers are wary of pure spec build...

Re: Mortenson Hotel - (19 8th Street North)
I feel like they love the faux-historical brick-heavy design.Hampton Inn ( in recent years) has attempted to do pretty good designs for their urban hotels, so hopefully we'll see a decent looking building here.that's cool. Hampton Inn is a good brand.

Re: Speed Building
I recently taken on a tour of our hvac company's shop where they are now building 3d models of the entire utility systems for new buildings and pre-fabricating whole wall sections with the utilities in them already. The sections I looked at were for a medical facility- so it wasn't just electrical, ...

looks like a 6 story shoe box. I know it's hard to judge a building at this point, but I must say there is almost no architectural detail on this at all. Hopefully the skin will look nice.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
Do you think the city is waiting until a lot of construction is done before they re-surface any roadways? I'm not sure how the city prioritizes roadworks projects, and also don't know how construction effects roads to be honest. It always seems to me like it would cause a beating on a new surface.

Re: Zip Rail to Rochester
Just seems cheaper and easier in every way to terminate at SPUD and using existing transit modes to get to MSP and downtown Minneapolis (Green Line, Route 94, 54/Riverview). I don't think the value of having a single seat ride to Minneapolis Interchange outweighs the cost (capital or operating) whe...
