Re: POLL: Fare free zone on campus or make the U-Pass mandat

I go to Cal right now, and we have a similar agreement with AC Transit as is being proposed. For us, we just get a sticker on our ID card each semester that indicates that it's current, and we just flash it when we get on the bus. A similar thing could be done with the U Card (or I'm sure there are ...

Re: Proposed Crown Hydro Plant

The fact that they've got an agreement from 1999 with stupid conditions that are still valid is pretty annoying. And to think we were just talking in another thread about lighting the falls to make them aesthetically pleasing. This just seems like it would never get approved in the current climate w...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

I love this line not because of affordability but because it implies that Boston and Philadelphia are peer cities to Minneapolis. That's total fiction, but it's the kind of aspirational fiction that appeals to Minneapolis' hopes for the future. Yeah...but it also suggests that Portland, Maine is ou...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

I'm quite drawn to the arch idea, myself. It'll give that park a solid landmark and an immediate area of interest. Also, a great meeting point. It's far more interesting than the 6 random medallions embedded in a sidewalk somewhere. Equally, I think the Arch is a great idea. I think it works well, ...

Re: Ramp A

WCCO is teasing a story about the return of the weatherball. Watch the news for more... Edit: they covered the history of the weatherball. They also plan to have a new WCCO logo tower on top of their newsroom on Nicollet that will mimic the old ball. It will be installed soon and lit in time for th...

Re: Ramp A

At one point I thought I had heard it was sitting in a warehouse somewhere on the State Fair grounds, but I guess I never looked into it beyond that. Alas. We could also just recreate one with nice energy efficient LEDs as a historical nod, but I'm sure that won't be happening even if I think it mig...

Re: Ramp A

Tall order, considering the weatherball was scrapped in 2000.
Can't we just put the Weatherball back on a parking ramp too?

Re: Major League Soccer in Minnesota

I'm a huge fan of soccer specific stadiums, but as long as the Wilfs have exclusive negotiating rights with the MLS for the next few years, and as long as the MLS is finalizing it's current list of the next four expansion teams (and I really don't know how many there will be beyond that), I think bu...

Re: Target Center Renovation

A tweet from Jerry Zgoda tonight... Wolves, city of Minneapolis & AEG call a Monday a.m. news conference to "update" Target Center renovations. After all these delays, a deal? Per twitter again, here are details: "City of Minneapolis contributes $48.5M, Wolves $43M, AEG $5.5M for...

Re: MSP Airport

Entirely true for anything in Central or Eastern time. My main argument was just for range - getting over 7000 miles at this point can sometimes require a lot of airplane and might be too costly with fuel/seat capacity. When Delta starts receiving its B787s in 2020, that probably is when they'll hav...

The narration stumbled a bit there in the middle, but it's great to have that focus on the area.

Re: MSP Airport

Maybe we're talking different timelines, here. I'm referring to the long term, so SEA getting new routes rather than MSP is not really relevant. Before improvements we might get ICN, but not much else. That could be true. It all depends on what their gameplan with Alaska is. The airlines.net forums...

Re: MSP Airport

DL gets plenty of feed from Alaska's flights at Seattle, and they have rapidly increased their own domestic flying to Seattle over the past several months. Notice the two new Asia flights they've announced for next year as of now are based out of Seattle, not MSP. EDIT: Adding a couple of links: Her...

Re: MSP Airport

Which flights do they run out of Detroit that they would shift to here? Detroit is a better connecting airport for most of the East Coast and they've got a fifth parallel runway planned. The expansion of Seattle is better for all of the West coast and Rocky Mountains. I don't see any reason why they...

Re: MSP Airport

More talking about Terminal 2 expansion: http://kstp.com/news/stories/S3197148.shtml I have to assume it's likely to happen if nothing else because Delta won't want to let other people back into Terminal 1 if possible. Question I don't know the answer to: in Terminal 1, will they be altering the set...

Re: MSP Airport

The general consensus on airliner.net have been that a flight to Seoul is most likely; however, Delta and Korean Airlines have been in a bit of a tiff, which might make that flight less viable if Delta can't use Korean's considerable feed for further destinations. I think HKG is pretty unlikely; Del...
