"Rip it down and build a HyVee!" -Regan Murphy, probablyI think that's a safe assumption. If it isn't already historically protected, it would become so almost instantly if it was threatened.

Class A space is hard to find in St Paul. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Cray leaves Galtier Plaza.

Re: Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope – General Topics
Well, the theater is demolished but many problems still linger. It appears that a major reason HyVee stepped back was due to issues with the final plat and frontage roads criss-crossing the property. A portion of the West Broadway right-of-way is owned by the city, but it turns out that the other po...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
Yeah, that's the role of the Port Authority.Just because the city didn't lose its shirt (and the feds were actually taking most of the risk) doesn't mean that it was a good idea for them to play developer.

Re: Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope – General Topics
Hard to believe that city was so cavalier about its demolition. Might have something to do with it being an abandoned building for 17 years. Actually, it has nothing to do with that; that is just a red herring to take focus off the real issue. Several investors have tried to purchase it over the ye...

Re: Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope – General Topics
So frustrating. I don't think I'm being melodramatic when I say that the Terrace was easily the most architecturally significant building in Robbinsdale. Hard to believe that city was so cavalier about its demolition. Not even cavalier; it's like they are absolutely salivating to get rid of it for ...

And then dumped part of the parking lot in it/ Reading comprehension fail or insider knowledge? The article says, "Demolition work on the building was halted. With the building off limits, the contractors then moved to tear up the asphalt parking lot." I don't see where it was "dumpe...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I'd say the distance from the front to rear platforms is closer to 1.5 or 2 blocks rather than 0.5 blocks as at40man suggested Well, two points: 1. St. Paul's blocks are smaller than most city blocks 2. I'm talking about Gate A (bus platform) and Gate B (set aside for future LRT) to the front, not ...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
To draw a comparison, would anyone make an argument that by putting an amusement park in the middle of the Mall of America that the management is artificially inflating the mall's numbers because people are "forced" to walk through the shopping concourses to get there? The Depot is no dif...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I'm not missing the point - I just think the argument that says we would be "artificially inflating the Depot numbers" by putting the trains in the area designed to accommodate trains 90 years ago to be silly. You aren't artificially inflating anything. Either people use the Depot or they ...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
Forcing people into the building to make the building active shouldn't be a primary consideration for Riverview's route planning. Harming that line and forcing transfers to be more difficult just to make the depot seem active would be a poor choice. But isn't that what the building was designed for...

The Terrace recently had its day in court! Erik Hansen (attorney who also was behind the "Save Peavey Plaza" campaign) made some excellent arguments in favor of saving the theater. Minneapolis, Minnesota (September 13, 2016) – Friends of the Historic Terrace had their day in court on Tuesd...

If I had deep pockets, I would be up to the challenge. I've long had many ideas that could make that building "Great Again". I've always liked it ever since I was a little kid. My mom used to me there for lunch on the rare occasion I got to visit her at work, and I first learned how to swi...

I found out what is up with Unity One's move. Apparently, it was time to renegotiate their lease. The Unity One CEO and branch manager went to meet with Nan. It was a short meeting, to the point where the staff were surprised to see a ashen-faced CEO and manager return after only 20 minutes. She app...

Re: Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope – General Topics
It seems odd that we would not protect and respect notable architecture. That would be odd. It is also odd that we apparently protect it now with no override by democratically elected government. The "democratically elected government" wouldn't override that. A city government has no plac...

Re: Robbinsdale, Crystal & New Hope – General Topics
This is one of those "majority rule, minority rights" type situations. No, it isn't. There's no minority right being protected with preservation. "Liking old stuff" isn't a protected class, nor should it be. It's an analogy. It seems odd that we would not protect and respect not...
