Re: The Interchange
still bugs me the station that sat on hennepin, (where the federal reserve bank sits now) was demolished. Agreed, what a beautiful building, and perfect location. That said, we are fortunate to still have the most prominent and architecturally significant train station in the Twin Cities still rema...

Re: The Interchange
Would there be a way to entice Greyhound to relocate near the Interchange? It's odd that they allow Jefferson Lines to eat up all their potential business in St Paul. And unlike Jefferson Lines, the current Greyhound station isn't exactly a pleasant place to wait for a bus or layover. Putting their ...

Re: Former Macy's Site
It's in a prime location downtown, and the crossroads of many skyways and busy streets. It may not have been a strong performer towards the end, but I remember it doing brisk business when I was growing up in the 90s -- enough to justify 5 stories of retail space covering an entire city block. It's ...

Re: Orchestra Hall
that's funny you were able to just walk in off the street and actually got into the auditorium space itself. they are really emphasing security almost to the point of being fortress like. Perhaps they ought to close and lock their doors. ;) You mean like they did to the musicians? Too soon? Perhaps...

Re: Orchestra Hall
The lobby doors were unlocked one afternoon last week, so I wandered in for a brief time. I found the additional space to be quite welcome, open, and airy! And the renovated auditorium looks great - I am digging the sky blue between the cubes. I would've snapped a few pictures, but I got the feeling...

Re: The Interchange
yea, i love the project and it will do for downtown and north loop but why does our local media feel the need to compare this to grand central station in nyc. It isn't the media that is promoting it this way - they are simply parroting what some of the project's biggest cheerleaders are saying. And...

Re: The Metropolitan Building
Maybe pictures don't do it justice, but my opinion is the outside of the building was ugly even if the light court was cool. I disagree - I really like the exterior and roughness of it - a nice contrast and surprise to the polished light court. Seems to me it (and the Nicollet K-Mart) were less the...

Re: TCF Tower atrium
Thomson Reuters has their offices in a nice new facility in Eagan - I don't see them desiring a presence in downtown Minneapolis - it doesn't make sense. Plus, the ties to St Paul are still fairly strong; they are currently leasing space in downtown St Paul despite their Eagan office. I used to work...

Re: Possible demolition of West Publishing / old jail
I can't think of a better location for a new Vertical Endeavors Location... Why not restore some bluffs, and do some building cascading down/up, and do some park, while creating that greenway around the edge of DT the way the their river plan calls for? I mean if they're going to do something in th...

Re: City Center
City Center - along with its cousin Town Square in St Paul - look worse for the wear each year. I don't know that a simple re-cladding will be the panacea. Simply covering up the aging concrete doesn't change the fact that these buildings will still relate poorly to the street - something more drama...

TCF Bank Building Redevelopment
Is it just me, or is this atrium vastly under-utilized? I can't remember the last time I saw the fountain running. It's a nice space - but it feels a bit closed in with those archways walled-off without even any windows. It seems like it would make a really nice banking hall. Or they could put some ...

Riverside Plaza worse than ever
From the MN Daily: http://www.mndaily.com/news/campus/2013/09/09/residents-say-riverside-plaza-worse-ever This begs the question - where did the $132 million of public money exactly go? It couldn't have cost $132 million to simply repaint the panels. If the elevators didn't get repaired/replaced, it...

Riversedge (Former West Publishing / County Jail site)
Surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet, but Pioneer Press just ran an article about possible demolition of the old West Publishing complex, as well as the old Ramsey County Jail. http://www.twincities.com/stpaul/ci_24003818/ramsey-county-might-raze-vacant-st-paul-offices I had some business t...

Re: Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
Just curious, why do you say that? It's a large building next to the river in a hot neighborhood. I've not been inside beyond using the old Post Office on the first floor, but from what I can tell there aren't exactly a lot of interior walls that need demolition. I could be wrong on this, but it alw...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
No set date yet. When I was on the WB Empire Builder, several passengers definitely took note of the Union Depot and wondered why we weren't stopping there. The sooner they get this link going, the better. I have a new job prospect with a company in Eagan. In looking up schedules on the Metro Transi...

Downtown Mpls needs a REAL park!
When I worked in downtown Minneapolis a few years ago, one of the amenities that always seemed missing was a nice city park within walking distance. (The river is too far away for a lunch break). I love Peavey Plaza, but it isn't necessarily close to everyone, and is geared a bit differently than a ...

Re: Lost Project
^Bingo. In fact, I would go as far to say that in terms of walkability and street-level architecture, the trees/flowers/planters/historic architecture found all over downtown St Paul far outshines the rather barren streets of downtown Minneapolis (outside of Nicollet). I do agree that a good chunk ...

Re: Peavey Plaza Reconstruction Project
This is just awful news. So now that pile of concrete crap remains the same. The updates would have been beautiful and made the space a place to go. I would bet all the money I've ever had that the people who were so upset about the proposed renovations have never spent a second there. Then you bet...
