Re: Stadium Village
I can't find the document anymore but about 10 years ago the University had a list of several buildings marked for removal if the opportunity and funding came up due to high maintenance costs. I am pretty sure the fieldhouse was on there but since they just spent a bunch of money remodeling it I'm g...

Re: Southeast Como Neighborhood
A while back they cleared some trees from the site but I haven't seen any other evidence of work. I only go by the site a few times a month though so maybe I missed something.

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Ave Development & RR Corridor/Grain Elevators
^It sounds like the Snelling Ave extension will be the only way to access the gas station/Burger king from 46th st. This is from an email I received from Andrew Johnson earlier this summer "Public Works will be closing off the in/out for Holiday and the strip mall, and that traffic will be directed ...

Re: Zoning, building codes, enforcement in the courts
I was also disappointed with Johnson's comments but not surprised. Living in his ward I can confirm that the old guard in the neighborhood fights change pretty hard. I already emailed him with my search results. I found 5 homes/condos in Longfellow that were $200,000 and had at least 2 bedrooms. I a...

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics & Development Map
I think the buildings between Oak and Ontario are fine as far as urban frontage. Stub and Herbs as well as the building with Raising Canes are decent. They also contain a fair amount of affordable smaller retail spaces. The liquor store and strip mall between Ontario and Huron boulevard are the ones...

Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting
^My biggest reservation with switching to them is their reputation for pulling crap like that. I did watch them string the fiber in my alley though so hopefully it is available.

Anyone tried Century Link's Gigabit fiber? I don't have USI in the neighborhood yet and I'm sick of paying Comcast.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)
It has been yesterday and today for sure. As a rider who was stuck waiting 20+ minutes today and yesterday it still drives me crazy how bad Metro transit is at making station announcements when there are delays.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
As far as I can tell they didn't add any additional ability to crossover near Government Center, they just replaced all of the existing switches/crossover points. I also haven't heard anything about trains not servicing US Bank Station.

I think the website might be out of date regarding the small carts. I'm usually still home when they empty my small cart and they use the lift. Same thing with the organics cart which is the small size. I'm guessing they updated the lifts when they rolled out the organics recycling.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
A coworker of mine who goes to White Castle for lunch several times a month said that employees told him they would build the new restaurant before tearing down the old one. Not sure if they know the actual plan though.

Anyone know what is going on with the residential portion of L&H station? Last time I was by it looked like all the construction equipment had left.

Re: Hi-Lake and Minnehaha Mall Area (Target, Cub, etc.)
^Having worked at that Target for a few years I can tell you an entrance facing Lake isn't very likely. The entire side of the building facing Lake is the backroom and employee office area. Unless they do a major remodel I don't see it happening anytime soon which is too bad. I've heard stories that...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Interesting...so the city at some point in recent history added another 4-way stop to this collector street? Wild. I could be wrong but I swear there wasn't one at 51st when I moved into the neighborhood. I can see why they are both there and as strange as it is to have 3 4-way stops in a 4 block s...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
I always figured the 52nd Street 4-way stop had to do with kids walking to the elementary school a few blocks west. Since they added the one at 51st when the library re-opened it probobly isn't very necessary anymore though.
