Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Just makes me wonder...what is it about downtown that makes them more prevalent there vs. the rest of the city? There are 160,000 workers there for lunchtime. I figured someone who say this. But there are also 400,000+ people in Minneapolis. Plenty of folks need lunch on weekdays not downtown, not ...

Walz is starting to announce his appointments, and it looks like the MAK is his choice for MnDOT.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
One thing that is interesting is that I kind of think downtown Minneapolis and the rest of Minneapolis kind of have opposite problems. Plenty of places to get junk food elsewhere in the city (although...yes, give us more Taco Bells), but whenever I want "fast casual," I find myself coming...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Lotta Strib commenters who (of course) made a point of blaming this on the minimum wage, which seems pretty unlikely given that we are nowhere near $15/hr yet. That said, I don't think salad/bowl places opening are really in the same league. What downtown is really hemorrhaging are standardized, che...

I was in there once, and I believe it was really just an office space for the family, Talenti (at the time), and a board room for fancier meetings.

Wow, when did the Phillips Foundation move out of the Pillsbury Library? Phillips Foundation offices haven't been in there for years. They were my funding org when I did a year of AmeriCorps back in 2012, and that same year they moved into the Banks Building. 1st Ave NE and 7th Street. And they're ...

Re: C Line - Penn Avenue North Rapid Bus
There's another cost to trolleybuses: time. Even if the cost difference is "only" 25 percent, it makes getting these lines up and running on an even longer timeline (which also adds cost).

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
On the flip side, because it's Minneapolis and not a major hub of national media, will this move receive less attention and publicity than it might otherwise? That seems almost certainly so at least in terms of mainstream, general audience press. But will that matter, if (perhaps) Minneapolis' exam...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
"Urban" is a pretty generous description of South Minneapolis. A lot of the Hiawatha Line runs through places we'd think of as streetcar suburbs if they weren't inside the Minneapolis city limits. St. Louis Park and Hopkins are certainly much more similar to Longfellow than they are to Ed...

This is the definition of a freeway armpit apartment, and I can't for the life of me figure out why you'd want to put a "luxury community" there. But at least it's place in such a way that any fixing of the grid here wouldn't be impacted by this development.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
I've always thought buildings with more parking spaces downtown always come down to: -Wealthier renters in expensive buildings who want to keep their cars (especially if they work a corporate job on a suburban campus). -The inability to park cars for free on streets most of the time. -Lack of basic ...

Re: E Line ABRT
I think corridors are important, but geometry of the area thanks to the lakes means you've gotta sacrifice that to a certain extent. And really, the benefit of aBRT in making things less confusing isn't that it runs on one street...it's that you don't need to worry about branches at all. That it mak...

I have generally been pleased with his performance. I'm sure I've disagreed with him on certain things, but nothing stands out. It is interesting that many lefties (for lack of better phrasing here) who chided him during the election seem to have quieted down quite a bit. Sure, they'll poke at indiv...

Re: Hennepin County Commissioner Districts 2,3,4 (2018)
I’m obviously voting for Hutch over Stanek, and I hope in an election sure to rile up progressives in Hennepin County that he can pull it off. That said, Stanek doesn’t just have incumbency advantage: He’s also just a better campaigner. I don’t know who’s running Hutch’s digital presence, but it’s o...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
If the gap between Grant and Franklin is finally fixed, that would be a major win. I am very comfortable riding in traffic, taking the lane, etc. But I literally stopped biking on this street, because I had several encounters where cars literally hit me with their mirrors, harassed me, honked at me,...

Re: Theater Garage Marquee Apartments - (Franklin & Lyndale)
Given that the building was almost certainly in disrepair to begin with, I assume now that inspectors have become involved that this wouldn't just be shoring up the foundation - it would also be fixing everything else they found, no? Assuming this gets knocked down, I wonder what can realistically g...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Yeah, the 7 has kind of a wacky route, but it sure seems like it's more useful for folks who need access to the core of downtown than just running on Washington, especially when the part it skips is the deadest stretch on the entire street.

Re: 1930 Hennepin Ave
The Hennepin frontage is blah. A full third of it just a parking garage entrance. Obviously, the neighborhood fought for the change, and maybe it's better to have frontage on Colfax, because Hennepin is pretty blah here...but it's going to make getting in and out of this garage a nightmare. If you'r...
